Xmas Note 5
Of course, if Mick wasn’t there to pull Omar’s fat out of the fire, what would happen? Perhaps we shall see.
Or not.
What a holiday week. Spent it in NorCal. (I’m actually typing this from a house in Sebastopol, Cali, visiting family. Everything I type is based on both things I’ve done, and things I plan on doing.) We saw the Redwoods with kidlet, hit the coast, ate at the Tides. Drank ourselves silly with lots of Mel’s family. Then I won a poker tournament for a bajillionty dollars, and beat Arnold Schwarzenegger at an arm wrestling contest! Instead of taking his money, I demanded he make gun control laws in California disappear, so by the time you read this, Californians should be able to own actual firearms! You’re welcome!*
*As I am typing this days in advance, some of this may not have actually occurred.
I find it amusing that Chrome Spellcheck has no problem with the word “Schwarzenegger.”
And now: Gun porn. Watching this video made my trigger finger hurt. Note that 700 rounds of steel cased 7.62 set the handguards smoldering, but NOT ONE FTF. Try that in an AR-15.
That was pure awesome. The only thing better would have been after the water dump/cool down, if he had done a good shake, and *then* loaded another magazine to burn through. I agree about the trigger finger – when I saw 700 round in the title, I was thinking he had a class 3.
“Note that 700 rounds of steel cased 7.62 set the handguards smoldering, but NOT ONE FTF. Try that in an AR-15.”
Seems pretty easy.

That’s pretty conclusive. And a bit awe-inspiring.
My NGA went 3000 rounds, no lube, no cleaning, including being rained in, with no malfs. It finally started having trouble feeding, with enough carbon to slow the buffer spring. I lubed it and carried on.
ARs are a lot tougher than the internet thinks, and AKs DO jam. Had a 1963 Tula jam during a US Army exercise a year ago. Two bursts and double feed. And several times I’ve had pistons rust/crudded into the gas block.
Both are awesome weapons. You should have several of each.
And my daughter has this:

Here’s a thought: what if “Malcolm” is really Omar? It’s already been established that Omar and Christine were into weird stuff, so what if this whole cheating wife thing is actually a sex game they played, and Omar not only knew about the letter, but was saving it since it was the last one she wrote before she died?
Considering it was Omar, He’s the kind that would never give his real name at first.
I think if you’re saving a letter from your dead wife, you’d probably have it stashed somewhere a little more secure/private than that.
It’s a good hypothesis. The purse was in his storeroom. I doubt he’d leave it there without going through some of the contents.
If this is the case, if Mick tells Omar about the letter, next thing you know…
Omar: “So where’s the letter now?”
Mick: “I burned it.”
Omar: “WHAT?!”
First thing I thought too. Omar has explored every other form of kink, he and his wife probably did roll play of all types-
Or possibly his wife was with someone else, and “Malcolm” was Omar’s safety pseudonym until such time as she left her previous to be with Omar..?
Naaaah.
I melted the handguards off of a SAW once, but with assault packs that’s not too hard.

Not bad accuracy for shooting from the hip. And yeah, it makes my trigger finger hurt too. I recall seeing a doodad to convert one finger pull into three trigger pulls a while back, that looked like it would have provided better mechanical advantage, and made it easier on his trigger hand. No surprise that burning that much powder heated the barrel to the point where it made the forend smoke. That much heat might have softened or even melted the plastic on an AR.
Jeez, I hope quenching it like that didn’t ruin the temper! I can believe that a chrome-lined hammer-forged barrel (as on the AR mentioned in the vid MountainSquid linked to) would not be as easily affected by heat.
Nota bene, Christine mentioned *leaving* Omar for Malcolm, so in her mind, they are probably different people. Now, I don’t know what kind of cancer killed her, but if it was in her brain, that opens up all sorts of possible explanations.
I wonder how those new piston upper ARs would compare in a 700rd torture test.
Trigger finger isn’t what I’d be worried abuot… Even with hearing protection, I’d be concerned about the ears.
“Try that in an AR-15.”
That should be no problem.
“Try that in an AR-15.”
Oh, I ‘ve seen people try. Mags after mags for a total round count of 2500 until that M4A1 (I believe it was an M4A1 based on barrel length and full-auto fire) gave out, handguards having caught on fire and rate of fire visibly decreasing as the firearm went smoldering hot.
With this said, happy new year in advance.
