Showdown #1
Dec31
Well, this got dark.
This is the week when readership goes down. I’ve been doing webcomics for a while, and this is the week where readership suffers. So if you’re reading this? YOU ARE ONE OF THE AMAZING PEOPLKE WHO READS DURING THIS WEEK.
Also, this is some awesome shit.
Also, for the love of whatever, please, please, if you drink tonight, don’t fucking drive. I’ve lost too many friends to drunk driving. Find another way. We’re going to be partying hard tonight – but we will not be driving drunk. It’s a surefire way to suffer a stupid, pointless death. Don’t do it.
Those moments when rage and hatred come boiling out someone and you really want to be running to the hills, no matter the state of the footwear. And yet there are people who can be utterly oblivious to that and keep poking the said person.
Eh. Still betting Omar and Christine were doing roll play, Omar’s having some fun with Mick for old time’s sake (and to screw with his head… So easy to do. Yet so amusing π
I’m with Bert. And Mick deserves all the Turkish Rasp he gets for sticking his dumbass where it shouldn’t be.
In some parts of the world these weeks are business as usual, so …. we still need your daily comic to stay sane, so thankyou very much for continuing the daily updates!
YOU ARE ONE OF THE AMAZING PEOPLE WHO READS DURING THIS WEEK.
It’s not the only reason that I’m amazing.
But we don’t normally talk about that…
π
Okay, well, at least this isn’t a heartbreaking piece of news to Omar about his beloved wife.
I agree with you that, these days, ANYONE who reads ANYTHING is amazing.
There’s probably more reading going on these days than there has been in a few decades. Granted most people are reading fluffy fiction like Hunger Games, Game of Thrones and various other entertainment novels, but they’re actually reading.
I’d be lamenting more about people reading “50 Shades of Gray” and the Twilight series. Give it a few decades, and I’m sure Game of Thrones will be up in the same level of popularity as LotR.
I’m glad people are reading more, even if ebooks are changing how and what we read.
Game of Thrones got pretty tedious for me, because there’s hardly anyone worth caring about. Everybody who survives is an asshole, and anyone who prospers is a complete villain. Far better is Elizabeth Moon’s “The Deed of Paksennarion.” Anyone who hates paladins after playing with one in AD&D (say, because they behaved like Miko in Order of the Stick) will find there stellar examples of what a paladin should be. Using them as my behavioral model, I played a paladin who managed to favorably impress a pack of players who generally prefer chaotic evil, apparently for the “freedom”.
I’m wondering if Malcolm’s bones aren’t in a lime pit somewhere.
Personally, I imagine that, had he buried the guy’s corpse somewhere secluded, it wouldn’t incite nearly as much rage… I figure death would make them even, right?
There are people who consider death as getting away easily.
Revenge nearly always brings with it two problems: first, you nearly always overdo it, giving the other party an excuse to seek revenge for your escalation … and overdoing it in the process, giving you a motive to seek more revenge, and so on. Second, it tends not to be as satisfying as justice.
On the strip: I was completely wrong yesterday. Also, Omar is obviously not one for poly.
Man, I’n often waking up to pee at 2am and turning the computer on just to read “Failure to Fire”
because I.. just.. can’t.. wait.. til.. morning….
I wish I could give you two extra arms, more hours in the day, and a generous stipend in exchange for extra panels every day LOL…
Happy to hear Bloomburgers ammo plan is failing on him, but I see he found time to ban e-cigarettes.
What’s next for NY? Mandatory tighty whities for everyone ?
What I don’t understand, is are New Yorkers not upset by his dictatorial proclamations?
Do they really feel they are being represented instead of herded?
Where I come from the large-soda-ban would have got him run out of the state on a rail, much less the damn “SAFE act”…
It’s called a RECALL ELECTION, NY… Get yourself one while they are still
on sale after Christmas!
You have to remember, the majority of NY is actually Republican, red state. Once you get out of the city one of the biggest industries is Hunting/fishing. It’s just the population density of NYC and Albany that let them run roughshod over the rest of the state. Majority of New York (Not city dwellers) can’t stand Nanny Bloomberg, and after the back room Mafioso SAFE act passed by Cuomo not many care for him either, except for the city, where most of the money comes from, and most of the voters.
Far as the soda ban, I work in the Soda Industry. Our global HQ is here in this state and while opposition was raised, the ultimate vote on it came down to the NYC Health Board… Each member on the board? appointed by Bloomberg so you can tell how that went.
That’s correct on the population.
Spoke to the local firearms guy last week. He said that ammunition provision was still active and has only been delayed temporarily.
The NYSPRA was told by the judge presiding that neither side had to argue orally for their lawsuit. The paperwork submitted was enough for him to rule on. Unfortunately, there’s a severability clause.
I don’t hold out much hope on this. Although every county but the 5 in NYC and the 2 LI counties have passed resolutions vowing not to enforce the Unsafe Act.
@Jamezb: NY’s are FURIOUS. Not in a small way either. The whole state’s going to crap and fast.
That’s the case with pretty much every state. The urban areas are democractic and the rural areas are republican.
As far as the soda ban, the reason there wasn’t much uproar is that most people just don’t care. Everyone with half a brain shrugged and said “well fat people will just buy two regular sized sodas”. It was also overturned by the appeals court for precisely the reason that it was put in place by a board of unelected officials. Regardless, all this anti-Bloomberg rage is a bit late, since he’s out of office in t-mins 14 hours 55 minutes.
We’ve got a few lawsuits going against this atrocity and more being drawn up. Almost every county outside of NYC has passed legislation against the safe act and a few have even banned the state from using county seals and names in any letters about the safe act including pistol permit renewals. The overwhelming majority of upstate New York is not planning on complying with the law and we are all waiting on November, since NY does not have a recall process. FUAC.
I haven’t missed a day of the strip since you started it, why start now. Keep up the good work.
Best way to avoid the pointless death you speak of is not to drink or even go out tonight, because… WORKING! Yay, jorb.
If you feel the challenge to drink and drive, remember that it gives permission to everybody that allows you to have a comfortable life, to ruin it. The justice system, lawyers, and insurance agents will no longer be your supporting partners. Employers, credit agencies, and security clearances get twitchy. You will also be burning $10,000-$15,000 you could have had more fun with.
I know when my neighbor is going to party like a maniac. He leaves the house sober, in a cab, so he doesn’t have to worry about getting his car home.
“I know when my neighbor is going to party like a maniac. He leaves the house sober, in a cab, so he doesnβt have to worry about getting his car home.”
^^
This.
Seriously – Tonight is Amatuer Night. Get off the roads before 11pm, if you possibly can. If you’re drinking, call a cab.
That’s a damn smart fellow you have for a neighbor. Wish there were more like him.
Dude – just grateful that you’re crazy enough to keep putting out strips over the holidays. If you’re willing to do the work and put them out, I can for sure find the time to read them (the fact that I enjoy the hell out of them doesn’t hurt either…).
Perfect summation, WmTell. FTF is a guilty little pleasure that I share with my husband on occasion. I read it if at all possible (sometimes tough when I’m out of the country), and if I have to, well, I back up to where I left off.
‘F#cked her sideways in manners that no honorable man would”.? OMAR is saying this? Good lord what was that woman into?
Dispatchers don’t get vacations.. or days off.. or sleep..
Also, tonight, no matter HOW tempted you are, no matter HOW happy and drunk you are, DO. NOT. FIRE. YOUR. WEAPONS. INTO. THE. AIR. IN. CELEBRATION.
It’s dangerous. It’s rude. It give firearms owners a bad name. Don’t Do That.
Hey folks, if you do find yourself with one too many in you, don’t drive. AAA will help you out. Don’t be a fucking douche like the one that killed my aunt.

If this was G+, I’d be +1ing all these comments. I have an ex that kept telling me that “nothing has ever happened” as an excuse to continue to DUI. I can’t stand that people actually enjoy rolling the dice on other people’s lives. I got a call last year from my mom saying she couldn’t come visit for the holidays…she’d had her car impounded. *headdesk* UGH! She spent $10k in fines, workshops and the breathalyzer attachment to her car, required by the court. Drives me insane.
Due to medications, I am not allowed to get drunk. Which means I’m the permanent designated driver. So we will be safe.
You can bet I’ll be careful! I wouldn’t miss this comic.
Adore the comic dudes. And LOVE the entire last panel of today’s strip. Omar’s face is fucking priceless π
It’s about ten grand for a first time DUI by the time it’s all over.
Cab, tow truck, NICE hotel, room service, hooker, breakfast, more cabs and tow trucks. For a party of four. Is cheaper.
Plan ‘B’ is to set your car on fire, ride home in a cab, and buy another car. That would still be cheaper for lots of folks.
Hell, one hundred a weekend in cabs, and tows, is two years worth.
or if the price isn’t enough motivation, there’s always dying…
I really can’t imagine missing the strip whatever week it is, but am glad you’re glad.
