Xmas Note 4
Dec27
It has been questioned whether or not these strips have a point. I assure that they do. Also, I’m driving, you. Sit in the passenger seat and shet it. Have a coke. π
Here! Have some hebby medal!
Also, The Deal continues to titillate readers. Only $4 on Kindle, or free to read with Amazon Prime! Got extra Amazon gift certificate bucks? I think you’ll like this story a lot. Just, ya know. Sayin’. Anyhoo. Need a beer while I’m up? How’s your cousin Cindy doing these days?
divorced, alone, pennyless
Dunno what she saw in that pedophile asshat in the first place, but he had hte best laywers
What happened to Mick’s old GF who shot a guy? Going to get back to that plot line?
I had never heard of Five Finger Death Punch until maybe a year or two ago, quickly grew into one of my favorite bands. Wonder how much they would charge if I tried to get them to play at my Motorcycle club lol
Slow down. Mind the pedestrian. Red light. RED LIGHT! Why is your ‘check engine’ light on? You want to get in the right lane, your turn is coming up. Watch out for that truck. π
so i’m midway through The Deal. and it’s making me say/do the same things as On the Banks of Lethe. i’m calling it “that damned book” and i’m staying up way too late to find out what happens next.
damn you. you and your damn books. π
Cindy, who used to be Charles, is doing fine. She works for the Suicide Hotline now and is dating Samuel, the guy over the Boys Choir at Saint Andrews Home for the Mentally Deficient. What? You didn’t know she lived there before the operation? Sam and Chuck used to be best buds. Now Cindy and Sam are in love.
Alex is experienced… And smart. Sometimes, when the map says “here be monsters,” you should turn around and go elsewhere.
So my guess is in a few more strips we learn that OmarΒ΄s middle name is Malcolm…
I want to buy myself another AK for a post-Christmas gift. Wondering if I should look for a side-folding stock, or something with an M4-style collapseable stock.
===
Am enjoying ride. Wondering if it leads to drunken Omar telling story of beating this Malcolm dude up, or into a stoic silence from Omar, followed by drunken rememberings of corpse dismemberment and hiding the pieces.
++++
Happy (insert name of preferred December holiday here)!
AR stocks on AKs makes Baby Jesus cry tears of blood.
AR collapsible stocks on AKs just remind me who won the Cold War. Ditto for AKs chambered in .223.
Why not get BOTH! Get a folding stock adapter for your AR style stock. I certainly will be.
Which one is kindle, the DRM free one I can read on anything forever, or some device locked peice of crap? Shipping on the paperback to where I am costs about the same as the paperback, and frankly I don’t want to spend that much. I would be tempted to read a cheap digital copy, but ‘kindle format’ is about as appealing sounding as cat vomit.
Kindle = Amazon. Make of that what you will.
I have specifically made sure that there is NO DRM on any of my books. I am stringently anti-DRM. I’d rather run the risk of some asshole putting my book on torrent sites than treat my readers like criminals or any of that bogus anti-customer bullshit.
But yes, this is a Kindle-exclusive e-book. You will need the Kindle Reader app to read it – this app can be found on all tablet markets for free, and they have a Kindle app for PC and Mac as well.
Then I won’t be buying. Sorry. I’m platform-independent only.
That means I don’t have to download apps – It should be readable in any OS with need to resort to format-specific apps. Which does limit your choices, I know. But doesn’t limit *mine.* As much.
If it’s only readable by kindle (as opposed to an open format not yet readable by anything else) then it’s stored in some special, encrypted, and/or proprietary licensed manner which may prevent ever stripping the raw text out of the file (and being a book it is essentially a fancy txt file, unless you have pretty pictures in there), and would probably mean reliance on the kindle apps being available in future (the installer for which I could tuck away with my copy of the book, but still).
Better than being locked to a single device, but I don’t want to be reliant on itunes/kindle/windows media player/or anything else that wants to manage my media for me and lock me in to ‘their’ market with ‘their’ file formats.
Good luck with that.
Do you read books in english, or do you have an open format for that as well?
If it means that much, D/L it and convert it to a pdf/txt/doc file and be done with it.
Of course, EVERY media format is potentially proprietary and or subject to being replaced or outdated, so you should immediately display it and then hand write it on paper.
Can it be converted, though?
Fortunately, I also slaved my ass off to put this book out in a new technology platform made entirely of paper, already transcribed. The pages are glued at the spine for ease of use, and it even has a cover with art on it! Best part? Requires NO power source. EVER. Sure, it’s not backlit, but nothing’s perfect.
“Fortunately, I also slaved my ass off to put this book out in a new technology platform made entirely of paper…”
Ah. Well then.
*lets out breath taken to utter a frustrated scream*
There’s a Kindle Cloud Reader app for Google Chrome and Chromium, and it can load anything on your Kindle account. That makes the Kindle format as platform independant as those browsers. I use it to read what GK Chesterton is available that way that hasn’t made it to Project Gutenberg. I have never tried to copy-paste to ODF or plain-text, but who knows? Maybe it can be done. There’s also an ebook manager called calibre which can read epub and Amazon formats, available for Linux, OSX, and Windows. That’s even more likely to support copy & paste.
Also, this overlay of the letter text onto parts of the comic is a really effective device for showing how it dominates Mick’s thoughts. Very well done, JL.
Like a PDF reader?
Or a web browser?
Or a text editor?
Books have their own difficulties, you know.

Paper is good. *That,* I will purchase.
“Do you read books in english, or do you have an open format for that as well? ”
Strawman.
FORTHELOVEOFGODALEX…nod and smile. Nothing good lies at the end of this road!!! [cringing]
Next time, brake about 20 feet later and cut left to apex it at that first tree, not the second. Grab third and let the tires spin up a bit to point the nose out of the corner, and then full throttle.
Also, I finished The Deal, good read and I’m ready for the sequel. Better than I expected, not everyone can make the jump from 4 panel strips to novels. Y’all need to get a copy.
I’m enjoying the free ice cream. Carry on.
(and I’ll be buying the book soon)
