God damn it, Jim, I’m trying to tell a story arc here that involves hot bisexual goth chicks. But then you have to open your big fat mouth and leave me no option but to ridicule you.
So Jim Carrey apparently thinks gun owners are soulless monsters with tiny dicks and no regard for their fellow man. I, as a gun owner, think of Jim Carrey as an actor who gained his reputation by being the funniest white guy on a black comedy show on FOX, a show that was cancelled before many folks who can drink legally were born. So yeah, social relevance, woo hoo.
Is it a transparent ploy to get attention? Gosh, I think it might be.
In case he reads this:
God damn it, Jim, you are painting with a retardedly wide brush. I’m not a racist, not a hick from the sticks (anymore), I’m not a die-hard teabagger, and I have plenty of regard for my fellow human. I own a small arsenal of firearms, but strangely enough, I haven’t killed myself with any of them, killed other people with any of them, and haven’t even injured other human beings with any of them. I’m a moderate liberal. Not all people who own “assault weapons” are racist white people who just want to kill things and have no understanding of the social repercussions of living in a country that allows gun ownership. (Also, WTF is a “hairpin trigger?”) A vast majority of us are just regular human beings who understand and exercise our 2nd Amendment rights. I work my middle class day job, drive my middle class car, and own my middle class house. I’m neither a psycho, nor am I going to kill myself, my kid, and my wife because…. WTF, why would my wife even HAVE a grenade?
Jim, you haven’t been topical in years, and your transparent cry for attention wasn’t funny. It didn’t even get a smile out of me – a gun owner who can laugh at himself. I loved you in The Mask, and The Truman Show. But when you start talking this kind of horseshit, I find it hilarious that one of your movies this year is Kickass 2, a movie that glorifies gun violence. This was a transparent ploy by you to outrage gun owners, and thereby gain attention in the national media.
Feel free to reply in the comments here, Jim. I’m still going to go pay my money to watch Kickass 2, because you’re just a side character in it. And the first movie was OMG amazing. But don’t think you fooled anyone, except for the absolute bottom of the barrel idiots online.
Now, to continue on yesterday’s trend, let’s get some more good dark music going.
Did he win a Oscar for Ace Ventura?
I am too lazy to check, so I am hoping someone else will.
According to IMDB, no… No Oscar Nominations, let alone Win.
His ass was a great supporting actor though…
…no. That was a joke. Ace Ventura was about as far from Oscar material as you can get without traipsing into Uwe Boll territory.
You mentioned Uwe Boll?

Greg Gutfeld agrees with enthusiasm
http://johnrlott.blogspot.com/2013/03/greg-gutfeld-on-jim-carrey-most.html
Last thing I saw him in that was worth seeing was Bruce Almighty… before that it was Liar, Liar… and since then… shit, I kinda thought he had died or something.
Now I see that it wasn’t a though, it was more like a wish. 😐
You know, I thought “The Majestic” was a decent movie. Largely because, at no point did he attempt to talk with his buttocks.
What’s the last thing he starred in? Mr Popper’s Penguins?
I agree with you there, I thought it was good, and certainly 2nd when he just acts he is a good actor, but most of the time I think they tell him to be funny and he just goes crazy and then it is just over the top
Funny thing I never thought of . . . he can actually do troll face in a manner 100% evocative of the traditional sketch. He’s the original troll!
No, that would be Andy Kaufman. Carrey WISHES he was that creative.
He and Jenny McCarthy are both raging AntiVaxxers too now.
Don’t forget, Jim Carrey’s also one of those ignorant activists that believe vaccines cause autism.
(For those of you that might continue to harbor this belief, you might want to read up on the source of that nonsense: http://darryl-cunningham.blogspot.com/2010/05/facts-in-case-of-dr-andrew-wakefield.html )
Yay! Keep the truth out there! I might add that the largest alleged-support-group for people and families affected by autism has, oooo, NO autistic people on the board, and they promote the anti-vaccine cause…
(Speaking as an autistic person who campaigns against the dumbshit beliefs out there and who wishes she HAD been given her shots as a kid…childhood diseases nearly killed me off.)
Damn cult of celebrity. I’d say ‘cult of personality’, but they’re mostly too vacuous for such an epithet.
after all we all know its the Pill that causes those disorders…
Hey I think grant teabagged me last night in Call of Duty. Lier lier pants on fire 🙂
Negative. I don’t play CoD at all. Sorry!
He’s made a career of portraying ‘mentally deficient’ characters. Who knew he wasn’t acting?
The last thing I thought he was worthwhile in was Earth Girls Are Easy. He didn’t speak.
Nice KMFDM link
Et tu, Fire Marshall Bill??? Say it ain’t so!!!
We’ve arrived at this strange place in our culture where celebrity worship has begun to endow these people (in the mind of the public) with almost omniscient powers. People famous for having attractive bodies and overproduced music launch their own lines of clothing. If you’re trying to campaign against abject poverty in Africa or help end domestic violence, that’s cool. We all agree that should be going away.
But on more debatable issues like gun control, I don’t want to hear from someone who has no reason to be talking about it. It’s the same reason that I don’t listen to Jenny McCarthy when she talks about the dangers of vaccination. She’s not a goddamn doctor. She’s a…. well…. not quite sure what she is. I don’t want to call her an actress. That’s insulting to women with real talent.
I’ll continue to see the entire anti-gun lobby as a pack of traitors egging on a herd of moron sheeple. Hey Carey, did you emerge from Biden’s bum, Schumer’s bum, or are you an illegitimate unded aborted fœtus from either a Komrad Klinton and Monica liason or from Hillary the Hag doing sheep or horses?
I always hate seeing performers giving opinions on anything other than performing. I want politics from politicians, and entertainment from entertainers, and news from the news. I expect satire from satirists, and I know that ‘It’s never JUST satire’. I know that there have been many actors and entertainers enter politics, and maybe it’s because thay can tell a story with a straight face, or laugh when nothing is funny. I cannot recall when a politician got into acting though…
If Jim wants to change the world, then make us laugh, or use satire to make us think. The two worst things to ever happen in entertainment was when actors got to talk after the demise of silent movies, and the other thing was when someone decided they had something to say other than their lines, didn’t have to use the side door anymore.
“Who the hell wants to hear actors talk?” — H. M. Warner, Warner Brothers, 1927.
This is how I felt about the whole Mel Gibson antisemitism thing, as well. When the fuck did we start caring about how Gibson feels about Jews? Seriously? The last I checked, Mel Gibson was an actor/wannabe director with a waning career, and not exactly in charge of the New White Power Movement. He’s an actor. Who gives a fuck what he thinks? Same here for Carrey, although I feel a little more justified in bitchslapping him. His job is to be funny. If he wants to satirize, he has to keep it funny. That video? Not funny. Nothing funny in it to be found. Just a few minutes of straw man presentation, and various pejorative statements insulting gun owners with tired cliches. Hurr hurr, I have guns, so I must have a tiny dick and I R gonna kill my fambly. Durr hurr. Hell, the video would have been funnier if he HAD gone back to pretending that his ass could talk.
Disagree on Gibson as a director. He did an awesome job on Apocalypto. Actually captured Mayan cultures pretty well from what I understand. And at least in his case, he wasn’t actually out pushing anything, minus his Jesus movie. And the directing was actually good, just crap material.
When was the last time you got actual news from the news? 😀
Politician to actor. Fred Thompson.
He did a parody of Hee-Haw???? That show was cancelled in 1971…there are people reading this blog whose PARENTS weren’t alive in 1971 *FACEPALM*
As a 21 year old college kid, I can tell you that I had no idea that Hee-Haw was an actual show.
You can buy old episodes of Hee-Haw on VHS at your local Cracker Barrel restaurant-and-rural-themed-kitsch store…
He’d be better off doing a PSA on why his batshit crazy ex-wife is so wrong on her anti-vax crusade. And that’s me speaking as a gun-hating librul from the earthquake state.
“why would my wife even HAVE a grenade? ”
Because she can. Because racecar.
(The more pertinent question is why he thinks a legal, NFA-registered grenade would be a problem. Count of NFA-registered grenades ever used in crime in the United States remains at zero, doesn’t it?
Hell, the count of illegal grenades used in crime in the US is precious close to zero…)
The thing to bear in mind is that many people’s idea of crime has nothing to do with actual crime. Grenades are good for killing more or less indiscriminately at medium range. Most criminals neither want to kill indiscriminately nor at medium range. The exceptions tend to be outliers–not so coincidentally, the same people who use assault weapons and high-capacity (or even “high-capacity”) magazines. Tens of thousands of shootings with 7-shot pistols don’t make the news, but it’s the things that do make the news that people assume are common and thus will buy into legislating. What are those things? Semi-auto rifles (often scary-looking ones), pistols with 30-round mags, and explosives.
I think another problem is that a lot of people have bought into the “murderers are ordinary people who one day snap” line. I suspect that the majority of people wouldn’t even know what “NFA-registered” means, nor would they believe, if you’re going to go to the effort to own a weapon legally, you probably aren’t going to do anything illegal with it. This is even aside from the scrutiny you’d come under if you were the sole registered grenade owner in a 100-mile radius of where a grenade was used in a crime…
Incidentally, am I the only one who finds the willingness to believe “ordinary people one day snap and become killers” to be utterly terrifying? Implicit in that is “I could imagine myself becoming a killer”. For the love of $deity, if you’re somebody who actually thinks that perfectly normal people suddenly become murderers, seek psychiatric help immediately!
Yeah, I’ve run into folks who have said that sort of thing — even said that they were glad they didn’t have firearms because otherwise they’d kill someone. I live in fear of them learning about rocks or knives or something.
Also did not know that grenades were a thing one could have. Kinda… want?
That particular brand of BS was recently thrown at me by a famous cartoonist that Mel and I are friends with. Just picking up a gun turns people into killers? Well holy shit, ALL of our guns are defective in this household! I better send ’em back.
As far as grenades… I have no problem with someone paying for the background check and getting a grenade, but I do have to wonder: what’s the point? This is not a weapon you’re going to use. Ever. If you’re just looking to blow shit up, Tannerite is legal, inexpensive, and hells of fun.
There are 300 million guns in the US.
If guns turned people into killers (or even suicides), the entire country would be dead.
Jim Carey’s wife’s anti-vaccination crusade will kill far more Americans than every “assault weapon” put together will….ever.
What?! You mean to tell me one of your fellow “We need a government that rules with an iron fist!” Democrats is against peasants owning guns?! SAY IT ISN’T SO!
If you want to continue being a dick, I can ban you and save us both time. I don’t pay for this server space for you to insult me. If my stances bother you THAT much, go fucking blog about it on your own site.
Let me get this straight: because I don’t agree with you on Social Welfare funding, you have decided I am… what, exactly? A “Democrat,” first off? Try again. Because you disagree with me, you’re going to pitch a fit? Accuse me of exaggerated shit I don’t and didn’t actually do? How old are you? Does this seem like a good way for a grown-assed man to react?
You can either pull up your big boy pants and discuss this with me, or you can keep trying to hurl insults. One of these I’ll allow on the site. The other I won’t.
I’m merely pointing out that you blatantly support anti-gun people and that the polices you support (no private property rights, government can do anything they goddamn please, etc) are inherently anti-gun. The type of government you support cannot co-exist with people owning guns because the policies you promote rely on forcefully confiscating property form people and treating people as if they are property of the government for the “benevolent” government to use as they please.
> The type of government you support
That right there. That’s where you, sir, are completely in the fucking wrong. You are assuming to know what kind of government I support – and you’re incorrect in your assumptions. You are shooting off your mouth based on incorrect assumptions. So how about you dial it the fuck back?
@Totenglocke == We don’t have a party in the US that is for all liberties, just a few selected liberties from each party.
Democrats want to give you the liberty to kill your kids with taxpayer money while Republicans want to give you the liberty to run a sweatshop employing those few kids who managed to sneak past the abortionists’ scalpels.
Jeremy – we have more than two parties in the US. The Libertarian party supports ALL liberties. Gay marriage, abortion, private property rights, drug usage, gun ownership, etc.
Don’t believe those who promote a single party system (which lets face it, Republicans and Democrats agree on most issues and where they disagree is over which rights to violate more). You should take some time and learn about the other options out there (not being condescending, I didn’t really look into it until a few years ago myself).
No, you really are being condescending. This post, and the others prior from you, involve you assuming that you know a great deal more than the people you’re talking to. From what I’ve seen, that assumption is absolutely false.
1 You do a very good comic and I enjoy the story so far.
2 You have made your political position clear.
3 Could we get on with the story and stop worrying about politics?
I can guarantee you that the rest of the strips this week, and probably all of next, aren’t going to involve politics. I try not to overdo the gun commentary. I really do. But I had to do the Carrey strip, just had to.
I think the last frame captures his likeness most accurately. An excellent portrait, Sir. Very well done.
Making fun of folks from rural areas…idiot. I grew up on a farm, and our livestock were smarter than this pompous, egotistical colostomy bag!
=^..^=
The liberal stereotypes of gun owners are, unfortunately, not unlike the conservative stereotypes of gay people. They come from the same place and have the same motivation. It’s what happens when people live in an echo chamber, and choose stereotypes that fit their prejudices and their view of the world. Conservative evangelical-Baptist Christians who don’t know any gay people (that they know of) are going to believe whatever their pastor tells them about gay people in church on Sunday because they don’t have any counterexamples. Liberals who don’t know any gun owners (again, that they know of) are going to believe whatever Dianne Feinstein and Jim Carrey tell them about gun owners because they don’t have any counterexamples either.
Trust me, I know, I grew up in New Jersey among the liberal attitudes towards guns and gun owners in the 70s and 80s. Attending college in a different state among people who had grown up in the “gun culture” was what got me to meet people who shot guns for hunting and sport, and kept them in the house for self-protection (shall-issue CCW was not a common thing then, it was before FL went shall-issue and started the trend). It was all perfectly normal and these people were sane and stable and not engaged in criminal activity, and that’s what got me to shift my thinking.
Yes, we have a violence problem in this country. If you look at *all* rates of violent crime, not just gun crime, it’s way worse in the U.S. than just about anywhere else in the First World. It’s a complex social problem. Like most complex social problems, nearly everyone has a solution to it that’s simple, elegant, and completely wrong.
Your last sentence is one of the greatest things I have ever read. The rest of the post is on-target, too. It’s surprisingly difficult to have a rational debate about something even if you intentionally go looking for it. When you consider that most people don’t have any interest in looking for something that contradicts their established views, it’s not surprising that so many people do live in echo chambers.
One of the first things I do in the morning is check my daily webcomic list, so I started my day by listening to A Drug Against War.
I finished the day listening to Sascha and Lucia (and co.) belting out A Drug Against War on stage in a semi-local bar to finish their encore.
Thanks for helping bookend my day 🙂
Shit, and I so wanted to see Kickass 2…. Oh well.
