Women, asking men out? What madness is this?
Madness I could have used some of at many points in my life. I’m notoriously oblivious to female interest, and miss many opportunities with the default set-up of the male having to be the person who does the asking.
It’s almost necessary in this age of enlightened feminism.
Back in my second trip through college, on the GI bill, most of my really good amorous adventures came from gals asking me out.

I don’t know if I could date a girl who calls me “Son”. Kind of icky.
“Son” is kind of a Southern all-use term. It doesn’t really have any family connotations unless you’re actually using it on family. Kind of like ma’am.
It’s kind of like “Doll” for the women or “Dearie” in general. It’s not really meant in a familial way. It’s just something less formal than “Sir” but something less familiar than “Sweetie” or “Darling”.
Regionalisms can be as difficult to translate as idioms in foreign languages.
Come down to the south. “Son” is an appellation that’s derogatory, in a friendly manner. Usually used to denote that the intended audience is doing something silly. “Son, you’re flooding the engine,” e.g.

By the way, I really appreciate somebody finally taking a protagonist who’s waffling and calling them on their bullshit. Webcomics could use a little more of that, as well as real life.
(And if I were a guy, and it was ALEX calling me “son,” she could call me pretty much anything she wanted!)
