I have dealt with law enforcement a few times. I always find it wryly amusing that they give you their phone number, “Just in case you remember something.”
Motherfucker, please. I just spent two hours with you giving all the details about how someone sneaked into my gated backyard and burglarized my car. The fuck you think I’m going to suddenly “remember”? “Oh, hey, officer, I totes forgot that I had an infrared camera in my backyard, and I got footage of the perp, including his face!”
Bitch, please. Motherfuckers want you to do their job for them.
On that note:
I’ve always assumed that it really means “if there’s anything you wanted to tell us but were too embarrassed/afraid/whatever to say right now”, and that “remember” is a polite way of not accusing you of intentionally withholding information. “Oh, hey, officer, I totes forgot that my pot dealer was saying just the other day that he was gonna take it out on my car, after I told him I wasn’t gonna pay him for that skunky weed he tried to stick me with.” Which you might want to wait to say to a cop with a clipboard until you double-check the local marijuana laws, or something.
Common sense, the super power Mick does not have.
I want this more than just once per day, but it would probably kill poor J.
J., damn you for that mouseover text. Now I’m gonna have that song stuck in my head all. frakkin’. day.
I had to make 2 police reports in June after realizing that the person who was cleaning our house (because I was recuperating from my 2nd spinal surgery) was also stealing our meds. I set a trap for her the 2nd time, but don’t have a nanny cam.
Yeah, no proof . . . but the Poirot-like sense of satisfaction was great.
That video made me choke with laughter. And on my coffee.
The guy in that video’s head is screwed on too tight.
Most police departments have a policy that you need to give your card out to everyone you have contact with. Something about liability and complaint follow-up. But people DO remember stuff later. All the damn time.
They usually have some kind of info they are holding back until they get a chance to cross-check stories (this is equally true of people who are totally innocent. Folks have a wide variety of VERY GOOD reasons to not speak to the cops until they have checked with people the conversation focused on. Maybe they get a lawyer, maybe they are just more scared of the cops but then later get a threat from the guy who committed whatever crime it was and suddenly they want to be more cooperative. A fair amount of the time, they get home and find out their best friend in the whole world spilled the beans and they want to join in a confession before it’s too late (at that point, it is too late, but whatever). Or they don’t want to make a situation worse by involving the cops, but then they get home and find out that the situation already got much much worse without them.
Lots of reasons, really. I was one of the odd cops that gave out my card with every ticket so if they wanted to complain to the chief about me, they could at least spell my name right and have some sort of proof they interacted with me (I, uh, wasn’t what one would call a “career officer.”)
Had my cell phone stolen, and the idiot who stole it didn’t realized each time a picture was taken it sent me an e-mail of the picture.
Cop still didn’t do anything afterwards
lazy cop
That about sums up my experiences with all law enforcement, as well. If it wasn’t money coming there way, they weren’t motivated.
I think I already figured out who did it and why they did it….. It was mostly elimination of possible suspects between Mick, Heidi and Alex. It’s deductive reasoning and that they seem to be the most likely choice for those reasons.
As for the ATF Clown, I’ve met a few of these idiots working the military who’re reservist douche bags. They don’t mention their week day jobs and love to talk anti-government BS and guns toward their supposed “shipmates” only to later send in their buddies to investigate those folks who speak ill of the government and considered a threat. It became worse post 9-11 because these clowns were actively looking for folks to go after until it seemed that they were trampling on their “freedom of speech” as religious folks…..
