I’m gonna step back from the pro-weed filthy hippie podium, and go back to guns. Then I’ll go back to pounding on bongos, painting flowers on naked unshaven women, and dousing myself in patchouli.
Have you seen this shit? I dunno about you, but this looks like a MUCH better alternative to the .300 blackout round. I really want this to happen, and to fire it, because there’s nothing I love more than a caliber that has serious punch. And this does. A 200 grain round at 2300 FPS at 50 yards? Gimme. Looks like it’ll knock a boar off it’s feet.
Then we have what a few people have sent me. A muzzle brake for the Mosin. I am against this, if for no other reason than: it stops you from attaching the bayonet. AND ALL KOMRADE KNOW MOSIN IS INCOMPLETE WITHOUT GLORIOUS BAYONET!
Finally, I don’t know how many of you noticed when I linked Unwoman before. She’s a goth/steampunk artist with SEVERE musical talent that I’ve been listening to for years. I’ve also now partied with her, and she’s a peach. Well, she has a new album coming out, and y’all mothafuckas what like cello and female singers best get up on this shit. I have an early release of the album, and I spent the entire night listening to it on repeat play while doing comics. Still listening to it as I type this. Shit be all sublime, yo.
Finally, my desktop computer died. If you’re looking to get rid of a spare buck or two, can you hit the donation link below this post? That would be killer. I’m currently doing the comics off a laptop that’s 6 years old. #firstworldproblems
Got your book The Deal. Greatly enjoying it.
WISH I HAD ONE
Easy to do! It’s on Amazon.com, I have it on my Kindle. Totally loving it!
My main problem with things like the .300 Blackout and similar cartridges is something everyone else considers a selling point: magazine interchangeability.
I don’t WANT a cartridge that can be stuck in a STANAG and crammed into a rifle that it doesn’t fit. Sooner or later, the Magical Dickhead Bullet Fairy will ensure that someone puts the wrong gunfood in the wrong pile.
In my opinion, that’s the only real flaw of the .300 blk caliber: It and 5.56 will cross chamber in both directions.
I deal with this the same way I deal with 12/20 gauge shotguns, and for the same reason.
Damn son. Talk about ticking all my boxes. Cello? Check. Female vocals? Check. Goth? Check. But you’ve outdone yourself this time. I wonder if she was on Play, and she is. I saw Uncovered and rightly deduced it was a cover album, even better.
But she as a cover of Samantha Fox. Ya heard me. Samantha Fox. My tween crush from the 80s that I was not then, nor now, nor ever will be ashamed to admit. Unwoman has a cover of “Naughty Girls (Need Love Too)”. All of that goodness above and a cover that goes right to the formative days of exploring new music and “OMG, girls are not icky!” combined?
Album sold and artist favorited right there. 🙂
We had Unwoman at Contemporal (steampunk con out of North Carolina) a couple years back, and she was a seriously good performer. On a related note, this year we had Valentine Wolfe, a goth duo with female vocalist and guy playing electric bass fiddle, so should tick most of your boxes. Been enjoying their album “Musick Most Dark”.
Hmmm-mmmm, we’ll just see about tha….
….niiiiice. Thanks for the pointer. 😉
Just picked up a Mosin M44. What a muzzle flash & blast… Big stupid fun! Muzzle brake? BAH!
Meh…I don’t really see what this .375 Reaper solves that the .458 SOCOM doesn’t already offer. You’re still going to have to change the bolt, so I’d wait for the long term tests before jumping on the bandwagon
One of the most attractive things about the 300 BO is that I can get a 30 caliber bullet out of my AR-15 and the only thing I need to change is the barrel. BCG (same bolt as the 556/223), mags, etc are all interchangeable. Also the acoustic rating of a subsonic 300 BO shot with a suppressor is insane. The thing whispers.
This. The draw of the .300 blk is that, with the exception of the barrel, all the parts are standard (read: cheap and plentiful). The huge problem with most of the other wildcats that have been crammed into the AR/STANAG mag is that they require a number of entirely proprietary parts that are only available from an extremely limited number of sources, and which are often of questionable quality/durability.
A big part of understanding my distrust of non-standard AR bolts for calibers with larger base dimensions than 5.56 is that the AR15 doesn’t have enough room for a structurally stable bolt. Furthermore, barrels/bolts for these calibers are generally quite expensive and available from a very limited number of sources.
With .300 blk, if you want to get out of the caliber, *all* you need to replace is the barrel; these days good 5.56 barrels can be had for ~150-250 USD, which makes it a relatively inexpensive proposition.
With other calibers, the bolts are generally proprietary (sometimes other carrier parts too), as is the barrel, and often the magazines as well. Given the proprietary nature of most of these parts (fewer sources, less demand, etc.) they are more expensive than their 5.56 counterparts, and thus could easily total over 500-1,000 USD….
On the whole, until some larger-dimension receiver set (like LWRC’s Six8) becomes an industry standard, I believe that any caliber not a child of the 5.56 case will be doomed to being prohibitively expensive (and therefore obscure).
Threaded my 44 for a Bulgarian 4 piece brake. Every clamp on, BNC twist on, etc, brake ended up following the bullet down range. I have zero confidence in them.
Better than 300BLK for what? People seem to forget what the design specs were for 300BLK. What the cartridge set out to achieve was ballistics similar to 7.62x39mm, that would feed correctly in the AR platform, which would require no modifications beyond a barrel change, and maintain full magazine capacity. It accomplished all of that. If you’re looking for something else, then a different cartridge could be for you.
Bah! All muzzle brakes are for the M44. …no, wait. They do make one for the 91/30… which is a twist-on type. Dammit. I cannot bring myself to trust those at all. Too many stories of brakes going downrange with the bullet and pieces of the sight.
Also, there’s awfully little meat for those top screws to hold onto. I’d be leery of that.
Being a reloader, i hate this cartridge. WHY REINVENT THE WHEEL? just use a .308 diameter bullet i can find in any shop that sells components and be done with it.
You should try the .50 Beowulf if you want a thumper, I love mine.
Seconded. Easily reloaded too!
If you were in LA, I’d be donating my Shuttle or HP Tower.
*sigh* It’s not filthy-hippie; it’s damn-hippie.
Get it right. 😛
Still wrong; needs to be “damned-able filthy hippie(s)”. Or you can substitute “filthy” with “stupid”, “lazy”, etc.
Q- What’s hot and smells like patchouli?
A- a hippie on fire
LOL!
bitcoin sent you can spend them now directly at newegg
.300 BLK? I still use 7.62x39mm, it has the same ballistics but plinking/hunting ammo is much cheaper.
If you want something stronger why not use 9×39 or the American version – .358 Gremlin. Rechambering an AK for it is easy, just a barrel and mag change.
The muzzle break “reduces felt recoil”. I don’t think that’s a great trade-off against zombie brain impalement either.
Drugs and a gun shop are a very bad combination: http://www.ar15.com/archive/topic.html?b=8&f=29&t=278196 Now, that was the owner of that particular shop rather than an employee, but I can see the shop being in loads of trouble if the cops found an employee smoking weed on the premises and they have reason to suspect the shop’s management knew about it. Anyone with better knowledge of the law care to comment?
Yeah, this is seriously bad ju-ju. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t support the regulation of any consensual act. That being said, as things currently stand in this country, if an employee is caught using drugs on premises at a gun shop the boys at Burn All Toddlers First are gonna be on that shop like stink on shit. It is just something that can’t be allowed to take place at all. According to the BATF, Sparkledark here is ineligible to be in possession of a firearm because of her use of MJ. They have issued letter to that effect to gun shops in WA and CO that even though MJ is legal there, MJ + guns are not.
Yeah, but they’re accepting the federal taxes on the dope sales, which is a crime in itself according to their own rules.
Twisted logic of government.
Didn’t you know? Government rules don’t apply to government.
A muzzle brake for the Mosin.
I understand all these words individually, but this sentence doesn’t make any sense to me.
Muzzle brake for capitalist pig too weak to fire rifle like proper comrade. Remember, dislocated shoulder sign of love for Motherland!
What truly doesn’t make sense to me are the .22LR muzzle brakes I’ve seen…
Consider it a place holder for a future suppressor…
Federal MJ+guns laws aside, my main concern here is whether Sparkles is functionally impaired, and whether she’s making safe, legal sales.
And FTR I’d have the same concern if she was boozing in the back room instead of toking. It’s not the pot, it’s the effects.
At the risk of flogging a horse that is so dead it’s now a can of budget catfood, when exactly does the comic refresh these days?
That’s a damn good question.
The autoupdater is broken. It works all of 2-3 times per week. The rest of the time, I have to update the comic manually, as soon as I have a second in the mornings.
