Intervention 3
Feb14
I was tempted to do a filler strip here, but at this point I’m really enjoying furthering the plot. Mostly because if I stay on target, I can finish telling this goddamn story sooner. At this rate, it’ll close sometime around October of 2016.
Head cold is evaporating, and I’m already back into my workout regimen. My whole body fucking hurts. Such is the price to pay if you want to get physically fit at the age of almost 40.
Ran across this today. History time!
“Such is the price to pay if you want to get physically fit at the age of almost 40.”
It’s not any easier at 45.
Try getting physically fit at 56.
Or 61.
The way to do this is to start at 25. It’s easier to STAY fit than to GET fit.
Unfortunately we can’t travel back in time.
Amusingly, I started at 24. Got in pretty damn prime shape for the next few years, until my daughter was born. Then it all went to shit.
This is my year. I can feel it. My goal is to lose 4 inches of waist by October and get back to curling 100 lb barbell, benching 250, and hiking 3 miles in less than 45 mins with 80 lbs on me.
Knock on wood, sir. The best laid plans o’ mice and men gang aft agley.
I’m amused that the “stay on target” link was exactly what pops into my brain when I read those words.
Said link does, of course, give graphic depiction of the likely outcome when you insist on staying on target… At least, that’s more or less what happens for me.
Thanks for that video link, passing it on to friends and family who never learned what a sling is really for.
I cheated and put a scope on mine-
It sucks being old and not able to use the iron sights past 100 yards anymore.

This mount replaces the rear hand guard. It doesn’t require permanently modifying the rifle, doesn’t get in the way of loading the clip or ejecting the brass.

You need a long eye relief scope to use- about a 12 to 14″ eye relief for most people.

At 24 and majorly nearsighted (without correction, I lose focus just barely past the rear sight of an extended pistol) I’ve thought about putting something like that onto one of my M1 rifles. The big thing that has stopped me is that I’d want to put really great glass on it, and finding a high quality scope (Leupold, Nightforce, US Optics, or similar quality) with the needed 12-14 inches of eye relief can be a bit of a challenge.
As it stands, my shooter M1 has one of these on it; Depending on how I like it, I may move it to a different rifle when/if I rebarrel my shooter.
I’ve also been thinking about getting that same shooter rifle chopped down to 16″ at some point in the future (Shorter barrel, shorter op-rod {generally made from an unserviceable USGI op-rod}, shorter op-rod spring, completely remove front handguard), but I not sure it’s something I really want to do yet.
When you start getting old and grey, a ‘scope is no longer cheating – It’s become necessity. When I was young, I could reliably shoot an accurized M-14 to 1.5 MOA with iron sights. Not so, any longer… Unless I’ve got that glass.
Saw this one coming, actually. 🙂
I need to wath that video later, my marksmanship is terrible even from a bench. I can’t get MOA with a scoped 22 off a bench at 50m.

I’m sure this guy will make you feel better… he’s only 70, but started lifting in his 40’s https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uKJaZDGVNWA
Omar should be able to find those pretty easily, clearly he doesn’t know who he’s talking to.
Considering he told Mick about the online pics of Mick and Heidi…I’d assume he’d already have all the Heidi pics he needs.
The following appeared in my FaceBook channel today.
It’s probably rather ancient, but I hope it gets at least a chuckle:

You may have read about the Southern California man who was put under 72-hour psychiatric observation when it was found that he owned 100 guns and allegedly had (by rough estimate) 100,000 rounds of ammunition stored in his home. The house also featured a secret escape tunnel.
By Southern California standards someone owning 100,000 rounds would be called “mentally unstable.”
Just imagine if he lived elsewhere:
In Arizona, he’d be called “an avid gun collector.”
In Arkansas, he’d be “a novice gun collector.”
In Utah, he’d be “moderately well prepared,” but they’d probably reserve judgment until they made sure that he had a corresponding quantity of stored food.
In Kansas, he’d be “A guy down the road you would want to have for a friend.
In Montana, he’d be “The neighborhood ‘Go-To’ guy.?
In Alabama, he’d be “a likely gubernatorial candidate.”
In Georgia, he’d be “an eligible bachelor.”
In North Carolina, and South Carolina he’d be called “a deer hunting buddy.”
And in Texas he’d be just “Bubba, who’s a little short on ammo…”
=====
If he was detained, then the money and effort on that escape tunnel was clearly wasted. 😀
In Delaware he’d be called “a poor a Du Pont.”
