Other people alluded to it in Friday’s comments, but I’ll say it again: Killing in self defense is not something you want to do.
Two days ago, I had a stupid friend think he was cool enough to tug on my holstered gun. I knew he was there, just didn’t think he was retarded.
Almost gave him a face full of karambit. Glad I scared him off, though. Hope that luck of not-having-to-hurt-anyone continues.

Every time I see some idiot go “I wish a mothafukka would….” I want to slap them. Shooting people is only fun in video games where everybody gets back up after the match and the digital blood disappears when the level reloads.
Violent crime is messy, dirty, ugly. Defensive shootings are just as messy, dirty, and ugly. Death is not cool, death is not funny, death is not something to wish for the chance to deal out. Wishing to get in a defensive shooting is like wishing to get in a car accident to test your airbags. No good will come of it.

Sorry to be nit picky but the Berretta 92 has a cutout in the slide for the barrel to show but in the comic the barrel is either two different colours or the barrel is being covered by the slide, a thing that doesn’t happen on a 92FS. Or is the pistol she actually uses not a 92?
The pistol is at slide lock, and the barrel and slide are not always different colors.
edit to add, though these are.
The 92fs has a cut out in the slide to show the barrel, yet the pistol Heidi holds doesn’t seem to have this cut out, the fact that it is at slide lock doesn’t change that.

Everyone else has said it, but it bears repeating: Taking another human being’s life, even in self-defense, is a major life-altering event. It is something that you will never forget, ever. I’ve known men and women who took life in combat, in self-defense, and one accidentally and all of them said the same things about the experience.
Thankfully, although I’ve come close a couple of times, I’ve never had to take a life. I hope and pray that I never do.
Pulling the trigger on anyone is a decision that’s necessary. It doesn’t help afterwords either when people say stupid shit to the person who had to make said decision.

I have never needed to take a person’s life. God willing I never have to. I have had to inform someone with the racking of the shotgun that I was armed, and they quickly bounded out of my back yard. I moved days later(it was already planned, don’t go thinking I moved because of it) so I never had the guy come back.

Nope. Often when people genuinely fear for their life, they empty the gun. Often not realizing they even have. Further, deadly force is the highest level of force there is, so shooting one time or 100 is technically legally the same. It’s either justified or not. If it is, it would not matter if she’d shot 50 times. (Or legally should not) As excessive force is using too much force for the confrontation, ie, using deadly force when only physical force would be justified.
You are taught to fight until the threat is no longer able to fight back. Rarely does a single shot stop someone especially with a pistol. Most likely what happened here was she pulled the trigger and just kept firing till the slide locked back something a lot of police do in self defense situations.
You know the standard LEO tactic, right? Shoot until the mag is empty, reload, and shoot the new mag until it’s empty. How many cops get called on the carpet for excessive force?
You might want to look at information from the Force Science Institute. They have past editions of their newsletter available for free on their website, which cover a lot of fine points of shooting scenarios. One thing I remember in particular was an analysis of how long it takes between when somebody has been shot and incapacitated and when the shooter can determine that the target is incapacitated and stop firing. It’s a remarkably long time, especially in comparison to how long it takes to empty the magazine of a semi-automatic pistol. Of course, FSI is a LE-friendly organization, which has led to some criticism (see “excited delirium”), but they have significant data and expertise; and, the same arguments apply to a civilian self-defense shooting as a LE one, at least where a jury is concerned.

In Texas, not only would she get away with it, it’s unlikely the cops would even detain her. Castle doctrine goes a long way. “I was in fear for my life” goes even longer.
Combine that with violent entrance and visible bodily injury, and the question detention wouldn’t even come up, except perhaps to immediately and officially dismiss it.
Also, there are 13 casings on the floor (in both relevant panels, nice continuity j) so the weapon was under loaded presuming she had a standard 15 round magazine.
Or there are two casings behind her feet…
