The ugliest gun
I first saw this gun on The Firearm Blog, and my immediate thought was: “My stars and garters, that is one butt-ugly gun.”
We drove out to CTD the week I drew this, so I could handle the thing. (OK, and to buy items. One does not merely etc.) It’s… ye gods, it’s a big ugly beast of a gun. Interesting, but I’m not going to be spending $2,000 on a .45 acp sub anytime soon, especially when it looks like it’d be a bitch to clean. Then again, people are giving it rave reviews, so… never say never.
Over the years, I’ve heard a lot about culture differences regarding firearms between the UK and USA. You know, if your society over in that quaint little island nation involves shit like this, I’ll keep my guns, thanks.
Intriguing…
Has to be a design decision. Like the Edsel, or something.
No, really isn’t. It’s just form following function, after throwing out convention. The main recoil mass is thrown down behind the magazine, thus necessitating the rather bulky receiver. The grip and trigger being so high up on the weapon, means the bore axis is pretty much dead on the center of your hand, wrist and arm.
Doesn’t make it any less ugly though.

This will explain it a bit. It might be ugly, but considering why it’s like that makes it interesting in my mind.
You know, tasing a blind man is bad, but I could just as easily see it happening over here. I mean, they issue tasers to American cops as well, and however much it hurt, it’s still much less likely to kill you than a gunshot wound to the thorax. Tony Martin’s story, on the other hand, is beyond the pale. Until they beg forgiveness of him on bended knee, the U.K. can suck eggs.
Ugly is as ugly does…
I watched one being fired. Because of their unique, recoil reducing design, it was child’s play to keep on target.
Butt— $2k!?!?! That’s a heap o’ ugly!
Wow! Built like a Luger, only upside down! Ok, I love .45’s, but I’m not quite sure what the point of building another .45 acp submachine gun was. I understand that the upside down Luger blowback mechanism makes it more controllable in full auto, but I can think of many other weapons on the shelf that would fit the role. Guns like the .45 Glock, 1911, .45 Mac-10 and .45 Mini-Uzi are just as compact, and cheaper (notice the price got a poor rating in the youtube video).
If anything, I’ve noticed .45 (and 9mm) submachine guns fall out in favor of .223’s with M-16/AR-15/Stoner style actions.
In short, the KRISS is a great answer, but what was the question?
Heh, that’s one of my thoughts about it as well. I mean, .45 ACP doesn’t do anything to someone wearing a II-a jacket. Okay, it’ll punch them, but not kill them. 9mm will out pen .45 ACP when it comes to body armor. So…if we are moving away from 9mm SMGs because of body armor…why build a .45 ACP SMG?
I can’t see this system functioning well with rifle calibers, as half the problem we have with rifles is their length. With this system, less barrel-length can be fitted in a given dimension. Add it to bullpup? It may amplify muzzle climb because it is pushing down on the rear of the weapon, behind the fulcrum of your hands.
It doesn’t even look lke a gun at all.
Although, it does somehow look upside-down.
I honestly thought it looked like Darth Vader’s gun would. Then I wondered why the fuck a sith lord would need a gun, and came up with “BECAUSE.”
I was able to shoot on of these things at the LuckyGunner Blogger shoot. My wife, a non-gunner, did too. Full auto, kept everything inside a 8×11 target at about 25 feet.
Fun fun fun!
Just out of curiosity, is the comment in the bottom margin a reference to the Pantsless Floridian?
The what?
Seriously…you wrote that tagline without knowing who Robb Allen is?
wow…

Looks like he wrote that long after I did that strip. And linked to me over it. 😀
Robb has an entire blog post category called “Pants. Or Lack Thereof.” Posts with that category tag go back as far as 2008.
Coincidence!
