On his mind
As noted previously: some of the challenges on Top Shot were very entertaining. Could I do them? Probably. With practice. That was what made them fun to watch – these folks got a couple of hours to get it down, not days.
I’ve found that there are two types of people in this world: Those who you show Top Shot for the first time, and they’re hooked, and those who stop watching 5 minutes into it.
In other news, I’m getting really tired of people telling me “You don’t need a semi-auto firearm with a magazine that holds more than ten rounds!”
No, I don’t. But I also don’t need a car, or deodorant, or my teeth. YOU don’t technically need your legs. A wheelchair will be fine for you, so why should you be allowed to have legs?
Morons.
The problem, again and again in this country, is that too many people support legislation that tells a blanketed number of the populace what they need, and anything more than that is just too much. Fuck you, you don’t know what I need. You aren’t me, and the fat fucker in Washington who supports various legislation that infringes on my Constitutional rights? He isn’t me either. Tell you what: Let me decide what I need and then you decide if it’s something that will fuck up your needs. If it actually will? I’ll listen. But if your needs violate my rights? Or vice versa? Fuck that shit.
Guess I’m that weirdo in the middle of the two demographics, who liked Top Shot ok but won’t go out of his way for it. *shrugs*
On a barely related note (in that it is related to your comics, just not this one) . . . “Crelm” is priceless. “With the new miracle ingredient, Fraudulin!” Which one of you two reached back into the recesses for THAT reference?
It was me. Also, you may have something to look forward to at the end of this week.
re: Crelm
Most likely a Python reference; at least, that’s what I know it from. 🙂
Yes, it was in Monty Python’s Flying Circus.
Still trying to figure out which of the current fuckers in DC is fat. At one point I thought I had it, but then you said “he.”
I always thought Top Shot would have been better if they cut all the drama parts out of it and really just kept it to the competitions. I cold never watch it because of how much of a drama llama the people were(which ya know they partially picked the people who would be the biggest drama llamas).
Anyhoo, I’ve always found using alcohol as the item you don’t really need as a good counterargument simply because people cannot give a counter to it.
I agree with Southpaw. Between the reality drama and the WTF shooting scenarios, I just kinda gave up on it. Which was upsetting to me because my friend Mike Tristano did the guns for Top Shot. Word had it the drama was even worse off camera. I kept wanting to watch for the guns, and got turned off by the producer’s BS.
Anyone who says you don’t need more than 10 rounds hasn’t gotten frustrated at having to reload constantly at the range.
I have been thinking along the lines of “You don’t need a semi-auto rifle/handgun with a magazine with more than 10 (7 in NY)… ” this week and I keep coming back to cars. Imagine the outrage of the populace if our cars were electronically limited to 55, 60, 65mph? “It is for the children!!!” Surely speeding cars kill more people than guns.
The limit of course would end fun & LEGAL activities like drag racing at the track, something else I enjoy doing. The magazine limit/AR/AK bans and restrictions (not gonna say “assault weapon”) put the same limits on otherwise legal and entertaining hobbies.
It might put the whole magazine argument in perspective for non-gun owners. I am not saying that we need to limit cars by the way… I believe we should have both the freedom and the responsibility to obey speed limits without some government edict forcing it upon us.
I watched the first season of Top Shot, but the drama really put me off. I haven’t bothered catching it since. The saddest part is that at the beginning of the season, it looked almost like it was going to be the first ever drama-free ‘reality’ show. Then, somewhere in there, they went all teenage girl on us.
Last time I looked nobody has walked into a school and kicked 20 little kids and 6 adults to death. Nobody has used deodorant, or your teeth. The automobile is one of the most highly regulated objects we come in contact with, and no we cannot drive a F1 car on the street. You also need nominally some training and a license to drive one.
Right back at you.
All the shooters in the last 100 years had legs. Therefore, nobody should have legs.
Also,
The automobile is one of the most highly regulated objects we come in contact with,
And yet they still kill more people than guns do, a great many times over. Tell me again why they’re so great and guns are so bad.
I can DEFINITELY get behind the idea of regulating guns like we do cars. Anyone can buy any gun they want with no background check? Passing a test showing only the most basic idea of how to operate a gun would let you use one anywhere in any state in the country (and even DC!)? No regulations at all for use on private property? No limits on capacity or power? AWESOME.
In other news, guns are unregulated now? This is news to all of us, I think.

Dana, sorry to inform you of this, but in the same week as Sandy Hook, a guy walked into a school in China and killed 20 plus children with a machete. It’s not kicking, but…
Also, in quite a few states you actually can drive an F1 car on the street as long as you equip it with horn, signals, and license plate, and obey all traffic laws.
I thought it was interesting that they did initially report more than 20 killed, then after Sandy Hook suddenly all of them were only “injured”.
Very interesting indeed, neh?
BTW thanks for the link to Michael Z. Williamsons blog.
Whenever someone starts yammering about “assault weapons”, I’m going to call them ACFs: Aesthetically Challenged Firearms. I’ve also started using a set response to the “But you don’t NEED…” BS:
“Oh — I must have missed the legislation, and confirmation hearings for the Secretary. When did they set up a Department of Needs?”.
Oh– and http://www.theblaze.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/Screen-Shot-2013-01-19-at-3.38.47-PM-620×480.png
