Buying the Shop 3

As noted, some of you saw this coming.
Wurgh. Upping my workout this week. This getting older shit has got to stop. I WILL HIT MY GOALS BY OCTOBER, DAMMIT.
Having a hard time with all the bullshit surrounding this situation. Yeah, I get it, it comes down to the letter of the law. But I can’t stand shoulder to shoulder, against the government, with someone who seems to be ignoring reality. And if this turns out to be a major resistance, I’m going to smash my face on my desk repeatedly in aggravation. The new revolution shouldn’t be about mother fucking COWS.
Don’t worry: It’s not about cows.
Even if they try to tell you it is. 😛
Harry Reid got caught with his hand in the cookie jar over this. It’s nepotism, plain and simple. The loss of every OTHER rancher who ever worked the land in the area isn’t a mistake, it’s a pretty clear trend. My only problem here is that he’s appealing to the constitution, and not to the concept of original ownership. Government doesn’t get to just go into MSPaint, circle a giant area you’ve never done anything for, and click “fill” to claim it.
Considering most historical people’s rebellions against autocrats started as peasant uprisings, starting one because of something about crops or cattle isn’t so anomalous.
If you don’t agree with some revolutionaries, you can always start a competing movement and use the other guys as useful idiots in the fight against the government, crushing them once they outlived their usefulness, just like the communists did with anarchists pretty much everywhere.
Reality is, life’s not a novel or a movie. We’re rarely presented the “perfect” squeaky-clean cause to fight for. We’re given only the choice, do we fight injustice, or do we not? Do we say, “Enough, not one more step back”, choose the ground we stand on as the hill we’re willing to die on, or do we wait until it’s our own doorstep we’re defending and we have no more choices at all?
Cliven Bundy understands reality. I’d give money that he knew his ranch was likely lost when BLM started their nonsense 20 years ago. In that case, he could choose to fade quietly from the scene like every other rancher in the area; no muss, no fuss, the bad guys win. He appears to have chosen the alternative, to require that the State force him out. This places the State on the horns of a dilemma, they can back down, and be seen as impotent, or escalate the force and be seen as tyrants. I hope that’s the choice I’d make, to go down fighting and tear Leviathan’s mask off as I fall. It’s a victory, even if not the ideal one.
And who knows, maybe the horse will sing.
The Revolutionary War started with TEA, cows are at least living creatures lol.
Actually, it wasn’t about tea; that’s just the modern scapegoat.
In reality, the colonists objected to the principle that they should be taxed by a legislature that they didn’t elect. Still, this objection didn’t itself result in armed revolt; instead it resulted in widespread protests. That general public sentiment resulted in the Boston Massacre, and even THAT wasn’t enough to cause armed revolt.
What ACTUALLY caused the revolution was attempts by the British to confiscate colonial arms and ammunition.
This is why the situations in NY and CT have me espically worried….
Tea? Not really. But revolts HAVE started over Whiskey. And Unions – both for and against. And land. And fences. And all manner of other items. So why the fuck NOT cows? What level of ‘purity’ must a stand against overbearing government achieve to be sufficiently pure for you, Mssr. Grant?
Get down out of your ivory tower, and join the rest of the world, where *livelihood* is a damned fine reason to get yer back up and git fightin’ mad.
Gotta agree here. The “strange bedfellows” and “enemy of my enemy” proverbs come to mind.
If Randy Weaver and the Branch Davidians didn’t strike you as major resistance, neither will this. Curmudgeons like Cliven Bundy are always the first to get crushed by an oppressive government.
That Image of him fucking Omar is not leaving my head, Thanks…
I can certainly agree to a lack of sympathy for the Bundy clan….
That being said, the real problem here is the degree of the attempted Federal power-grab.
The claim that the Federal government can’t possess property within the states is ludicrous. Aside from the issue of military bases, the Nevada state constitution says the Federally controlled lands remain under Federal control. Federal control of the unclaimed lands predates the arrival of the Bundy family by several decades, going back to the end of Mexican-American War. The only reason turtles got involved is bacause Bundy drove his cattle into a new section of the protected area. But the crux of the matter is that, after several generations of paying the land use fees, he decided to stop, and ignores the Courts and everything else that says he’s wrong.
Exactly. And unless Reid has become prescient, this wasn’t anything he caused, because the issue goes back to 1993 when the dude stopped paying his grazing fees (and in fact he didn’t even try to renew his permit – he lost the permit because HE let it go).
Pretty much every single person who is on this guy’s side is getting their information from InfoWars…
I don’t know about you folks, but I tend to treat with heavy suspicion any information presented by a site that thinks Bush was behind 9-11, doesn’t believe that we landed men on the moon, and isn’t sure the Holocaust actually happened.
You apparently fail to recognize that InfoWars got their information from mainstream media sources like Breitbart news network as well as publicly available documents. No matter how they say it in this instance, what they are saying about Reid and his cronies is true. Any one of us could do the same research as they did, it’s out there for the world to see. The fact that BLM was using tortoises as an excuse, and also euthanizing them, is also fact, verifiable by anyone. The source doesn’t matter as much as the facts, in this case. No, it’s not about cows, it’s about rights, and it’s about not letting government agencies overstep their bounds.
This is the reality that I noted this Bundy douchebag is ignoring.
There’s more to it though. His family had purchased grazing rights in 1880. The BLM changed the deal. They told him that he could not have more than 200 head in 1993. That’s when he refused to pay. The federal Government had essentially starved out the other cattle ranchers in Nevada. In 1998, they decided to expand their reach and seize more land using the “Endangered Species Act.” They cited the Desert Tortoise as the reason. Of course they have been slaughtering them due to budget constraints, but that didn’t matter to the BLM. PROTECTED IS PROTECTED, DAMMIT, unless we find them inconvenient.
They actually seized another rancher’s land out there using the Endangered Species Act and placed it under BLM control after they found a prehistoric minnow on the land.
It’s no coincidence that after he became a senator, Reid became a millionaire in real estate. And he just happens to be involved with the BLM… It’s a tad suspicious to say the least.
Just a side note, that he was supposed to be exempt from the grazing fees, as his family had PURCHASED the grazing rights.
Facile and shallow, Mssr. Grant. Dig deeper. It’s not he whom is ignoring teh realities, though I’ll grant he does come across as a douche.
But are not douches ALSO allowed to be protected by the contract law? Is it OK for the government to unilaterally abrogate a contract of long standing (grazing rights *purchase* – going back to 1877) because someone is a douche? Is it OK for the government to hypocritically cite protection for a ‘protected’ animal that it itself is killing as a reason for changing the rules?
Should the government be allowed to arbitrarily change the rules (make them up) as it goes? And should what amounts to a military invasion be an appropriate resolution of dispute?
“federal control” ≠“federal ownership”.
Getting older is a pain, James? No doubt, but speaking from entirely too much experience: It beats the snot out of the alternative. Also, from a purely selfish viewpoint, I tend to hope you’ll keep both aging and writing up for a good long time. /suckup.
Only problem you really have to worry about is where you’ll find room for your 70th birthday tatt
As much as I hate it, the fact of the matter is that fighting government overreach is a lot like fighting for free speech rights: Often times, you end up defending people you think are scoundrels.
In the Bundy case, there is a crystal clear trend, across multitple presidential administrations, by the BLM to try to force these people out of business.
As far as paying land use fees, it is my understanding that Bundy elected to stop paying when he felt that the fees had become excessive; From the sound of it, he has admitted to owing approximately 300,000 dollars in fees. The BLM contends that the amount owed is in excess of 1,000,000 dollars.
While I certainly hate freeloaders/moochers, I hate jackbooted thuggery more. I think this picture speaks for itself.
Has hedi always called mick Blondie? I thought only Alex did that.
It’s not about Bundy
It’s not about cows
It’s not about the tortoise.
It’s about civil rights
Accept every statement the Feds have made as 100% accurate, and Bundy is totally wrong, in what way does that justify suspension of the Constitution?
Because, that is what they did
The difference between ‘WAR’ and ‘REVOLUTION’ is… War is when the Government tells you who the enemy is… Revolution is when you figure it out for yourself…
Alex Jones is a wackjob nutcase. Sells his wares by fearmongering. If you don’t think every single one of those (ineffective) products he hawks via fearmongering isn’t directly connected to his own pocket you are naive beyond belief. Goes into a rant about Situation A and 3 days later there’s a product advertised on the show to combat Situation A. Talks about Situation A as long as product is moving, when sales slow down Situation A only gets brought up in passing on rare occasions.
Example- Monsanto and GMO products. His ‘overwhelming body of evidence’ is the famous and now scientifically peer denied rat study from France.
He never ever bothers to mention the control group mortality of 70% from the same tumors! Some of the GMO corn and Roundup groups had LOWER mortality than the control group!
The world is full of the South Park Underpants Gnome Logic Tree-
Phase one- collect underpants!
Phase two- ???????
Phase three- PROFIT!!!
But, just like other wackos every once in awhile he makes a valid point.
Oh yeah, got to love any noble group of freedom-lovers that deliberately uses women as human shields.
“This getting older shit has got to stop.”
Yeah no shit.
