I’ve got almost 4 bricks of the Aguilla super maximum (Cheetah) .22 on hand. Box claims 1700 fps, sounds wonderful!
Problem is, I’ve yet to find a .22 that shoots it accurately. I suspect they pushed it just a bit faster than the alloy was good for. Someplace upwards of 1500 fps, all my cast bullets in centerfire rifle rounds start needing GAS CHECKS. They mostly need to be a harder alloy than is used in .22 LR bullets too.
I wonder if the twist rate in most .22s is just too slow for these Super Maximum Ultra Uber Hypervelocity rounds. Seriously, if you need to push a .22 bullet that bloody fast, just go with .223 out of a Savage Axis or similar.
Better yet go with a REAL round – 7.62x51mm :p
If anything, the twist rate would be too FAST for the shorter, faster projectile. Too lazy to teach physics right now…

I’ve actually got a few bricks of that as well that I picked up for the extra force. I’ve got a Sig Mosquito that is incredibly finicky about ammo. It’ll shoot CCI minimags mostly well, and the Aquila super max high velocity mega ultra superstars decently. Anything less and it FTE or fails to feed.
Well, we finally got some proper winter.
Still waiting for more.
