Backstory #1

Oh hey, is this character development? Mayhap it is.
I assume some of you are enjoying these vids because it’s the kind of stuff that you’d hear being played over the stereo at Goffy Coffee.
Also, today? We break 2 million pageviews since the comic launched. I type this at 12:30 am, when we’re <2K shy of it. Gonna happen, likely before dawn.
Damn, are you swiping my playlist? Loving the accompaniment tracks. Where I am at, we don’t even have a coffee house, let alone a decent one. It’s roughly 100 miles to any place with “culture” that I would embrace, and that is somewhat questionable at best. I gotta tell you, at times I am living vicariously through Mick here… Heh, yeah, I know, sad isn’t it? Oh how I miss the days of living in Austin!
damn, this is the stuff that tickles my fancy.. kmfdm, faderhead, combichrist, got some friends in adelaide who dabble in DJing, love catching up with them and talking music. got some geeky friends here with awesome music tastes, but they dont go this far….
2 megahits. Holy fuckballs, dude. For a very much niche comic that’s only been live for a couple of months, that’s seriously impressive.
It may be a niche comic, but he’s already a well established comic badass.
Mick is gonna get shot, although it remains to be seen as to which of the two will be doing the shooting.
My guess is blue-hair here is the room-mate red is trying to avoid…. THAT would make an interesting sub-plot, eh?
Nope, Alex (blue hair) lives with her father “The rifle whisperer”
How do you pronounce “slainte”?
No, I meant literally you; how do YOU pronounce it?
Correctly, I’m Irish.
Agreed, Congrats on the views and keep the good tunes coming. Nice to see some musically tastes close to my own. I’m usually the one that cant stand the music ANYWHERE the wife and I go
Correctly, Iām Irish.
Ooooo! Then would you be so kind as to spell it out phonetically, including stressed syllables if applicable?
I’ve run across a LOT of different phonologies on the-ever-reliable line..
I’d much appreciate a real Irishman’s word on the matter.
If phonetic transcription isn’t your thingk maybe you could compare its sound to some American words?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mZMBvqosoGI As Brainleak says below… “correctly” LOL
I’ve heard it as SLON-cha, SLAN-je (j as in Jerry, not a French “je”), SHLAN-te (“te” as in “telly”), and a few other things, by people claiming to be Irish and having good enough Irish accents to fool me. Just don’t rhyme it with “dainty”….
Dave Aronson – me too; that’s why I’m asking.
Actually I was hoping for an answer from jlgrant himself, because I know he would be meticulous enough to hunt down the true Irish pronunciation, AND be able to transliterate in a fashion that I, even I, couldn’t get wrong.
SLON-cha. Says the guy who wound up in an Irish mercenary unit after getting into English Civil War reenacting.
As Dex says, thats the closest. Irish also š
“SLON-cha” stil lleaves me wondering quietly to myself, “Is that first syllable meant to be like SLAWN, or SLOAN?”
That would be “Slawn”
Although, speaking of pageviews, I would love being able to see full-size versions of the comics on the RSS feed…
Had to share.
