Wheee, I bought a second-hand desktop (thanks in major part to the funds provided by the readers), and this is the first comic I’ve done on this new rig.
Yeah, I think we’re living in the calm before the revolutionary storm. But I’m also drunk while I type this.
Let’s be honest: The politicians don’t represent the public, in the USA. They really don’t. Show me a politician, and I’ll show you someone who’s been sucking off the public funds to make a welfare queen blush. All of our politicians are in the pockets of the megacorporations. They make more money than you do, and the money they make is your money. You should be bothered by this.
So let’s light up some fireworks and celebrate what a free country we live in. Wheeeeeeee.
The key problem with democracy is that your only choice is one politician, or another politician. Even your reform Tea Party is all politicians.
On the other hand, you can always vote ’em out… an option that you don’t have in any other system.
Nah. Our system has the best option of all.
As long as a different party holds power in each each house of Congress, or (not so good) a different party controls the Legislative and the Executive, We The People are well-served and protected.
Celebrate Freedom! Promote diversity among our Congresscritters.
And please, light off all the fireworks you can today. Just lemme drug the dog first.
P. S. Lest someone mention the “B” word, bipartisanship, all I really need say is “Assault” Weapons Ban.
The Soviet system allowed you to vote only for or against a single candidate. The American system is superior, because allows you to vote for or against two clones of the same candidate.

“… letβs light up some fireworks and celebrate what a free country we live in.”
happy 4th
No argument here.
Of course, the one thing that makes our system look good is all the other alternatives. The hard, cold reality is that any political system that runs exactly the way you think it should is going to piss a whole lot of other people off. Because they have the gall to be too stupid to see life the way you do.
Well played, sir. Happy 4th to all!
No fireworks here; this is California.
But I’m getting ready to bail, and emigrate to America….
Republicans are red,
Democrats are blue,
Neither one gives,
A fuck about you.
I think I’m going to repeat that, a lot. So sick of it all….doesn’t matter WHAT you are for or against, they’re fucking with it. All of it.
And Screaming Liberal who Owns Guns is pretty much reviled by all of them. (Trust me. Personal experience).
This. I believe in single-payer health care and subsidized higher education (not out of altruism – a healthy, educated populace is far more productive than a mob of chronically ill morons, that’s all), but I also believe that I shouldn’t have to trust my personal safety to an underpaid and overworked civil servant who has no particular reason to give two tugs of a dead dog’s cock about me and is never around when shit goes non-linear in the first place. So the Demonrats and Rethuglicans both hate me.
(holy run-on sentence, Batman…)

Complaining about politicians has become just another form of entertainment/distraction. We have way too many people in this country who produce nothing of tangible value, they simply package their opinions and thoughts and try their damndest to get paid for it. It is their financial interest to stir up hornets nests. Just say no to the Pundit/Industrial Complex!
Eh, Bernie Sanderson and Elizabeth Warren seem to represent the people fairly well. Sure, they get paid to do it, but that’s just the nature of the beast. Politicians get paid.
Ha! Good one.
Well, the New Hampshire state senate seems to be decent representatives that are in it for the people and not the dough… It seems like they haven’t voted themselves a raise since they were founded over two hundred years ago. Their annual salary is a great big whacking $100 a year.
Sanders, not Sanderson.
I was about to make a similar comment. Even if you don’t agree with their stances, those two are making some waves by being much closer to real representatives. Warren’s recent interview on Colbert was really something.
THis is the reason I vote for the Libertarian candidates so often. They are not necessarily any better, but they are at least different.
And, before anybody says I’m throwing away my vote, how is it any worse than voting for a Republicrat or Democan. Both sides want to limit our rights. At least the Libertarian party has a stance of trying to increase individual freedom.
I tend to agree with you. Libretarians – and Greens – both tend to represent people and not corporations. Of course this is at least partly because they work for a living [since they don’t get voted into office very often].
Wait until they start to succeed in the political arena.
yeah, then they’ll *call* themselves something else, but still vote against rights-gobbling legislation.

You would probably be deeply disturbed to learn how many of the founding Big-L Libertarians no longer feel even remotely that way.
And speaking of Libertarians, any of ’em out there might consider offering a prayer, burnt offering, or just a good thought for El Neil. He’s hospitalized, trying to recover from a nasty stroke; not as if there’s another variety. . .
Be sure to keep a bucket of ice handy when setting off fireworks, to store detached body parts before heading to the ER!
The politicians aren’t really the problem. They are a symptom. The voters (and especialy the nonvoters) are the problem. Bread and Circuses are the problem. Tell six generations of people that they can vote for whatever they want with no consequences and this is what you get. And it’s going to get so very much worse before we’re in a position to get better.
Heinlein was correct (as usual) the next step in a democracy’s’ demise is tyranny, and it usually comes from the left, because that’s where the bread and circuses phase comes from.
Strange how most tyrannies actualy spring from law and order and nationalistic pride, not bread and circuses. Including tyranies in hienlin’s lifetime. The guy could write plots, but ANYONE who has to rewrite FDR into a big fat villian has already failed at engaging in a political discource
Er—yes. Like the Soviet Union, China, Cuba, North Korea, Zimbabwe, Venezuela. There have been so many fascist tyrannies lately. π
More like the calm before the … more calm. We are no longer a nation of people who get up off our asses and put ourselves at risk of moderate discomfort.
The big club that you’re not invited to. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hYIC0eZYEtI
It is however interesting to note that Carlin was performing his act on television—that is, on a public medium owned and controlled by members of “the big club”. Which you would think would have been inclined to NOT give him a forum to air that particular routine…if it were true…unless perhaps—just perhaps—Carlin was in fact a member of this club himself? He did after all have a reported net worth of around $6 million when he died. π
The big club is made up of billionaires not of milionaires, it’s a completely different level.
I see your GWAR and rais you a slayer

Seriously Why ya’ll not rioting in the streets to reclaim your country is a goddamend mystery to me. Things are cranky round here and our government is not half as corrupted as yours is
