Wedding Plans Part 1
Apr29
Oh my. Mick is gonna get butthurt, I guarantee. Mostly because I write this comic for the most part, and I know where it’s going.
Man, if only Chicago had strict gun control laws. Then they wouldn’t have these sprees of gun violence, that we don’t have down here in the hardcore gun control state of Texas.
God, I want one of these. To hunt deer, of course.
I want slow motion pictures of what happens when that thing hits the deer.
It’s probably on the order of a man with cerebral palsy being an invisible butcher with a really dull chainsaw.
It drops, cleans, skins *and* butchers all in one easy high velocity package. Also suitable for moose!*
*offer not valid in the UP
Post above made entirely of ‘Win.’
it cooks too. don’t forget cooks.
Only if you use tracer ammo.
I don’t imagine you’d get much meat retention. Or pelt retention. Or bone retention. But, hey, the head would be ready to mount.
This video is a hoax. There are no anti-tank weapons in the US outside of military bases.
I doubt it is officially an Anti tank gun but called/manufactured as a 37mm rifle.
Besides, why not seeing as you guys can just go out an buy tanks. How hard would it be to get a couple of full auto M2s or 30 cals on consignment and mount them for the lulz.
It’s an 80 year old, obsolete A/T gun, just marginally more useful than a Boys rifle.
It could probably penetrate armor of the most wheeled APCs.
aren’t more modern versions of the Bofors still used (in the 40mm variant I think) as AA guns?
The venerable 40mm has evolved, and remains viable, albeit I don’t thing the ammunition is cross-compatable.
That loon who does FPS ussia has a vid of him firing a WWII surplus Bofors 40 single-mount AA gun. Looks like fun. 😀
AT gun and AA gun are completely different weapons.
You mean like the famous German 88 Flak gun? 😉
I’m pretty sure that the difference between the guns is probably in the loading mechanism (rate of fire for hitting air targets) and ammunition (AP vs Flak), but for all I know it could be an entirely different weapon just made by the same manufacturer
Probably actally less useful than a Boys Rifle (one of which is on offer on GunBroker, right now); a Boys Rifle at least doesn’t cost you $50 a shot, and is somewhat man-portable.
Used to get catalogs from a dealer in the Yukon who sold Soviet PTRD and PTRS A/T rifles. I was always somewhat tempted…
Didnt the tv show that follows Red Jacket firearms around show them renovating and firing a bofors 40mm though? Perhaps not effective against modern heavy armour, but definitely anti-armour.
Sure there are. Especially when you’re considering obsolete weapons.
Quite a lot of people collect militaria, and if something’s legal for private ownership when you buy it, the government is *not permitted* to take it away or prevent inheritance (no ex-post-facto laws). Also the idea of making guns et. al. illegal is pretty new. Even today, you would be surprised at what is actually quite legal to make and buy in the U.S.
Well… Define “anti tank weapon”. As Bubba would say…
On the right day, a ditch in the correct configuration is an anti tank weapon.
Hell, during the ’56 uprising, the Hungarians demonstrated that used sump oil is an AT weapon, sliding tanks down a cobbled hill into a wall; knock out!
William, no doubt the owner of the gun is a Type 10 FFL holder that can manufacture / own destructive devices. What makes you think the video is a hoax? We can legally own about anything in America, if you have the money and proper licensing.
My remark was sarcasm. 😉
Is it bad that I immediately started looking for references in Maria’s name?
Looks like good clean fun to me. 🙂
@William; the US doesn’t *use* dediated anti-tank guns any longer – Hasn’t in quite a long time. And yes, you can absolutely get obsolete miliatary arms, if you’re willing to jump through the right hoops and have lots and lots of money.
We were at a gun show this last Sunday with lots of milsurp collectors; one guy had a Lahti on offer for $38,000. (Not a typo.) I saw and lusted after a Brown Bess, but our budget just about stretched to buy a box of shells or so. (Not for the Lahti. Those were twenty dollars a round.)
For a Lahti, that’s a good price.
Sure it does. They just mount them on other tanks. 😉
Yeager talked about hunting deer or antelope with a P39 fighter plane in his book.
Friend of mine told me a story about having a good meal from a moose after seeing it taken down by an AH-64.
I live about 70 miles from Fort Knox (both the Gold Depository and the military base). I used to hear stories about what happened when a deer wandered onto the firing range. (The place is in a nature preserve.) Results from .30 and .50 caliber machine guns is nothing compared to the tales of “pink mist” caused by tank main gun rounds.
Remember, “Gunner, sabot, sniper” is not considered proper and efficient use of ammunition.
Of course not.
HE is far more effecient.
my dad told me that the gunnery range on Vieques, Puerto Rico the local farmer used to let his cows go wander on the range.
the conversation went something like this
“so, does anyone know what’s for lunch” (loads a 106mm RR HEAT shell)
“ummm…no?”
“the correct answer is ..HAMBURGERS!!” (pull) BANG (.50 spotting rifle) (push) BOOM! (recoilless rifle)
followed by raining bits of cow and a pissed off farmer.
My uncle had a story of 60 mm mortar crew missing the target on the top of the hill and hitting the sheep on the other side. Apart from the head, everything was in small pieces.
Read a similar story where a group was on a patrol exercise and spotted a heard of deer. They were told to hold fire and not shoot them.
Of course they all did a mag dump, 50 cal and all. Their NCO was pissed. Not that they disobeyed an order but that they didn’t even hit one.
Apparently these shitbirds all graduated from the Imperial Stormtrooper Marksmanship Academy.
At the high-pressure rifle range (read: tank gun testing range) at Aberdeen Proving Grounds, Maryland, the gun didn’t have to hit the deer – A near-enough miss was generally enough to create fatal shockwave trauma. Which is the only way you’d actually pot a deer on that range – The guns were fixed in a testing mount, so couldn’t be aimed (they were testing terminal ballistics, not accuracy). Also did a great job of mowing down saplings shoulder-high.
Deer hunting, eh?

It’s probably all story and little truth, but hey…makes a great story :p
HOLY SHIT. They are getting married on my Birthday!
When is it supposed to refresh? I’m so confused these days…
Just want my fix, man!
There’s been ongoing screwiness with the site’s automatic updater. Don’t worry. As soon as it’s noticed, it’ll be fixed.
I saw this news article, thought of you.
