My computer blew the fuck up tonight. Had to reinstall Windows over the top to fix it. Ugh.
Have some music. I’m off to bed.

To be perfectly honest, if the amount of marriages one goes through in life is a “score”, then it must be like golf… the lowest, the better.
So with zero I win? 😀
If you never swing, you were never in the game.
This contents me well. 🙂
Something about a necessary component of a bride is that there should be a hole in one?
*applauds slowly and appreciatively*
Ugh. Reinstalling Windows always sucks. Hours and hours of updates and reboots, followed by hours of hunting and downloading drivers, and hours of hunting and downloading the software you used to have, tends to make it a painful, all-day process. And if it’s XP, you are going to have no further security updates come April 8.
Reinstalling Lubuntu, or OpenSUSE, or Manjaro, takes about 20 minutes, and reinstalling all the apps from the repository takes a couple hours, but I have (and share with two others) about as little bandwidth as it’s possible to have and still market it as a broadband connection.
Microsoft. Giving me job security since the 90s.
Damn Skippy!
Windows.
There’s yer problem.
Yeah, the comps at work have been glitchy. The requisite bugs in 7 are starting to show themselves. I’m assuming you haven’t
What’s up with Two Lumps? The Meat Truck has been pulling up for about a week now.
Yup. They have never needed to program a BSOD in Linux.
Be fair. There is such a thing as a kernel panic, but they are very rare.
To be perfectly honest, in my 7+ years in the IT field, i have not once seen with mine own eyes a machine that suffered a kernel panic. read about, sure, and when the day comes that i see one i will know what to do. but it just doesn’t happen very often.
20+ years. Seen my fair share. Even seen a Sun e10000 that would kernel panic and reboot randomly with no users on it.
Actually, Linux does kernel-panic sometimes, and dump error to the screen.
BSOD Screensaver?
But… Kernel Panic! Core Dump…….
Linux has enough problems staying running on it’s own, and tends to be less secure in the hands of novices than Windows. In an expert’s hands, Linux is far better, but tell me that some novice wouldn’t run an executable labeled “New_Open_GL_Screensaver_Pack_for_Linux.scr”
no system is completely secure or without problems. entropy ensures that
Sign on my old co-worker’s wall: “If it weren’t for users, our computers would work perfectly.”
“Every network is perfect until the first user logs in.”
Yeah, I did my time as a BOFH.
I built and sold computers back in the Windows 3.1 days. I had a customer come in and ask me how to keep a computer running perfectly. I told them to never turn it on.
Now, while he didn’t appreciate my humor, he bought a computer from me because of my honesty.
There must be something in the packet stream. I was fighting all kinds of stupid IT issues yesterday, although nothing that required a reinstall. Sorry to hear your problems propelled you to the nuclear option.
I feel for both Mick and Omar. I’ve often joked I should be on my third divorce by now 😉
Did you try to reverse the polarity of the power core while hopping on one foot, shaking your dick and chanting incantations to the evil spirits in the motherboard card? My guess is your flux capacitor overclocked the dual pentiums if that doesn’t work, which means you’ll need to reboot your hard drivers next.
I think you might have been making some of that up.
Stupid noob, you don’t even know what you’re talking about.
I’m betting his turboencabulator drifted out of alignment.
Nah, his offog self-disassembled….
well, if thats the case you need to bring an offering of snickerdoodles to balrog, god of RAM. after that, wipe your hard disk clean with a wet cloth and chant “The cd drive is not a cup holder” 25 times.
Windows troubleshooting: does google have the answer? If no, does fiddling about for at max 2 hours fix the problem? If no, fuck it reinstall.
Linux troubleshooting: don’t bother, it’ll never run what you want out of the box and will be a bitch to install programs on. Unless you have at least three years of linux specific study behind you the answers may as well be hidden in the RNA code of the 57 DNA sequence of a platypus, just waiting for you to sequence it.
And then there is ubuntu: despite doing almost everything windows 7 can do, and being easy, the “linux” stamp scares away most of your friends.
