The Fourth Estate Is Dead
I was really hoping that by the time this comic was scheduled, I could delete it. No such luck. Seems our elected officials have decided #YOLO #SWAG #FUCK_THE_PEOPLE, and that bombing Syria is our best bet. To, uh. Do something. Punish them for gassing their own people. Yeah, this will show them. I bet they’ll just take the bombing like a naughty child gets a spanking, and apologize. I reckon…
Ugh. This next voting cycle is either going to be a bloodbath, or the system will out itself as heinously corrupted, to the point that it cannot be denied anymore, by anyone. Once again, the plan is to drop billions of dollars of bombs on a fucking country most Americans can’t point to on a globe, for reasons nobody can concisely explain when quizzed on the street. Groovy.
Go Back To Sleep, America.
In case you missed it yesterday, Failure To Fire Episode 1, TRY THE JERKY, is now available in full color trade paperback. This is ONLY the first 6 months of the comic. Episode 2 will be forthcoming, as well as a higher priced full 12 months collection.
Well… at least this time he went to Congress for approval, like the President is required by law to do (not that that’s made two shits worth of difference for the past hundred years or so).
I would be more impressed with his asking Congress for approval if it was not an obvious afterthought (made when he belatedly realized how much political trouble he was in) and, what is worse, if the President and his lackeys were not saying that even if Congress does not give them the green light to attack Syria, they may just do it anyway.
If Obama does launch a war despite Congress voting against it, I think it would justify Congress impeaching and removing him from office. Chances of the current members of Congress having the stones to uphold the Consitution and do this? Maybe one in ten, at best.
Ya know the problem with impeaching Obama… then we get President Biden.
I’m not at all convinced that would actually be worse.
Easy comic inspiration for me!
Dat tittay…
It’s hard to say.
On the one hand it would probably force the left to run Biden in 2016 (instead of a better campaigner/candidate), but on the other hand it would make it much more likely for us to end up with Biden for the 2016-2020 term.
Still, it seems to me that Biden would be pretty easy to beat using his own words against him (seriously, I don’t know how that man can manage to walk around with both feet in his mouth…)…
It doesn’t matter anyway. Congress could vote to impeach, but it would be pointless. The senate would never vote to convict.
That announcer reminds me of Angry Patriot Boy.
Yup. Getting even futher involved in the 3000 year cluster fuck innit goign to go poorly at all, nooooo
is it just me, or is the executive branch incapable of learning form the past?
The executive branch, most of Congress, and a good half the civilian population at large, in my estimation.
Only half? Optimist!
Last I checked, the US civilian population overwhelmingly doesn’t want involvement in Syria, according to multiple polls performed by multiple news sources.
The Kerry’s backtracking on the ”surrender the chems and we will not bomb you” was downright hilarious.
Not to mention the whole “any bombing will be incredibly tiny” tap-dance.
“I only got her a little bit pregnant…”
The strangest thing about all of this is RUSSIA is pushing for a peaceful resolution… Now Syria is willing to put it’s chemical weapons under UN control… Amazing how the world has changed. When an Ex KGB leader of Russia is the world’s best chance at peace in the middle east, and the US president and John Kerry who both used their anti-war stance to campaign on are looking like war mongers…
Russia is pushing for a peaceful resolution because they sell weapons to Syria like we sell Russians wheat. Syria is their big cash cow right now. If we start bombing, that interrupts their supply chain. It’s a win-win for Russia. They get to trade chemical weapons for conventional weapons and look like the good guy.
The big picture is Syria itself does not matter like Spain did not matter before WW2. It’s what the big boys do about it that will shape what happens (or hopefully doesn’t happen) in the next decade.
Remember how many years Saddam Hussein was able to waltz the world around over destroying its chemical weapons?
There’s no way that we or the UN is ever going to be able to know that Assad hasn’t hidden a few stockpiles away somewhere. Especially with the Russians running interference.
This is just a face-saving way out for the Administration, and they’re jumping on it like a drowning man onto a life preserver.
Also does anyone else get the feeling that the news bulletins are increasingly more like a news bullshittings, or is it’s just me getting jaded from all the news idiocy.
I’m just amazed some people are still calling what we see on television “news.”
I hope I am not the only person reminded of the news broadcasts from “V for Vendetta” right now.
I didn’t realize Team America: World Police was a documentary.
it’s pretty obvious from context that the intervention, whatever form it ends up taking, is something Israel wants and since they’re our Ally in the Region they may end up getting it.
Heh … what Israel wants is for you to bomb IRAN …
Bull. If the Israelis think Assad or anyone else in Syria needs bombing, they are ready, willing and able to do it themselves. Remember when they took out that nuclear reactor in Syria? Or how when Assad tried to slip some nasty new missiles to his Hezbollah buddies the IAF brought down the hammer? The Israelis do not count on America or the UN or world opinion to protect them. They know their history too well.
Just out of curiousity, anyone else here who thinks this whole fiasco is the result of some super secret Jewish plot rather than yet another demonstration of the epic level incompetence of this administration?
“… or the system will out itself as heinously corrupted, to the point that it cannot be denied anymore, by anyone.”
I’m having trouble imagining how much further “out” the system can get, and I’ve seen denial. I was active on a politics forum in 2001-2008. I reckon some people can keep denying way beyond any threshold of proof.

The first half of that quote has already happened. The second half will never happen, because the human capacity for self-delusion is infinite. (I mean, come on, there are people who seriously believe that all their psycholoical problems were caused by an alien dictator nuking the citizens of an alien empire 75 million years ago. What’s hopenchange compared to that?
bombing for peace is like screwing for virginity.
