I told you I have a bunch of Biden strips in my head. Yes, these are going to happen sporadically. I would never claim that Biden is as dumb-as-a-fucking-stump as Quayle was, but his verbal gaffes on gun control… they deserve nothing but white-hot derision. Women can’t handle the AR-15? Then why do we arm our female military members with them in a fucking war zone??? Ah, right. Biden’s fulla shit, I forgot, kekekekekeke.
This strip was brought to you by a convo with a very dear friend of ours, Staff Sgt. Kelley, who just had to re-qualify with the AR-15 and the Beretta M9, prior to her deployment.
Women can’t handle the AR-15?
Obviously.
That is the best Joe “d-bag” Biden one yet. Whats sad is that he is serious about that shotgun BS of his.
Maybe we’ll be lucky and ‘Biteme’ Biden will take a lesson from his hero Kurt Cobain on use of a shotgun?
Can’t resist … the military qualifies with M16/4 rifles, not the AR15 (unless they have some odd supply situations).
BTW – love how you captured the current “small profile” method of laying the rifle across the chest. They had just started teaching that when I was in (late 90s), and it’s rarely seen in the media because it looks silly (but works).
Fucking loving this strip. Reading this got me all nostalgic for the Flem strips, which reminded me that I never got around to buying your books … now my kindle is downloading On the Banks of Lethe and Digging Up Corpses. Progress! Technology!
And I think tomorrow, if the weather holds, I may take a lady friend out to get some target practice with my AR15 (she has never shot anything but a school’s target rifle in Europe). I’m willing to bet I will be humiliated by her marksmanship, which will just be the latest in a long line of women outshooting me with my own damn gun …
> Can’t resist … the military qualifies with M16/4 rifles, not the AR15
I didn’t want to confuse the Antis who read this.
A detailed analysis for D&D and other roleplaying games gives women a 5 to 6 % bonus in dexterity and men a similar bonus in strength. Women shooting better with small caliber weapons is no disgrace; men carrying 12.7mm front line machine guns around and using them effectively is also more likely than women doing so. It balances out and means your army makes more battle wins with a mixed force when everyone does what he or she qualifies best in.
SNARF! How very sciencefiction mr know it all. 🙂
Am I the only one who, as I was reading this, had her voice change from serious and professional to high and giggly in my head somewhere right around the “…and the make up goes on…” part of her statement? I think I feel dirty now. Thanks Shotgun Joe, I needed to take a shower anyway.
No, no, you were not the only one. *sterilizing*
It’s not a reflection of your character, it’s the mark of a good strip setup. The context and dialogue naturally led into the see saw tone that we all heard in our heads. Nice job!
I wasn’t thinking it before, but it does seem completely appropriate now that you mention it.
I have to tell my Range M-16 Story now, when I was a Cadet we got a range tour to familiarize ourselves with range procedures. The Range Master lectured about the ease of fire of the 5.56mm compared to 7.62mm. One of the male range instructors took the M-16 and was told to fire it on Auto-fire first, then handed it off to a female range instructors and handed it to her to fire one handed on single shot to show the low recoil of the round. The male instructor forgot to change the selector switch to single shot when “safe”ing the weapon and the female instructor forgot to check before she fired and the “Sixteen” starts aimed down range and ends in the shelter roof.
Two Colonels, a couple of Lieutenant Colonels, a Captain, a Master Sergeant, all the range personnel and the cadets were hugging the dirt. Needless to say the next day on the range, range safety by all participants was at an all time high. No more range accidents were ever committed by those highly devoted to safety cadets. It quickly passed into a now little spoken “Legend” amongst the cadets. By the way that female instructor was an outstanding instructor and was highly experienced, even she can make a mistake on the range. Hers was big and in front of a bunch of witnesses.
“Shotgun Joe” scares me more than that day at the range.
“She should be mopping the floor, not playing with firearms, according to uncle Joe.” Please tell me this is a reference to somethign he actually said.
My daughters – now 27 and 32 – both learned to shoot my 8mm Mauser when they were teenagers. They complained about the recoil, but managed to get in the outer ring at 100 yards after some practice.
After I built my first AR, I offered to let them try it. They were afraid of the recoil. So, I put the butt up against my crotch and emptied a full standard 30-round magazine. After they stopped giggling, they started making bulls-eyes at 100 yards. They won’t volunteer to fire any of my bolt-actions, though they could if the SHTF.
For two-legged vermin, I still like an AK over a .223…
I heard all those words in his voice.. what magic have you wrought?
After having the butt of my 12g Mossberg imprinted in my shoulder for a week, I can’t imagine being afraid of the recoil of a gun.
Strange, I always see the “women don’t belong in combat” as more of a conservative idea. Biden and Obama are supportive of it, it has been right-wing commentators objecting to lifting the restrictions.
And yet, Biden seems to have suffered a major head injury when he starts talking about how Women Can’t Use The AR15.
But he never said the rest of all that. Make the point, but there’s not only no reason to make stuff up, it diminishes it when you do.
If it please the court, I introduce exhibit A: the fact that this is a comic, and therefore, exaggeration and hyperbole will occur. The LAPD also didn’t shoot a little girl for approaching an officer, Obama doesn’t actually have horns, Mosin Nagants don’t, in reality, come with enough cosmoline to cover a human torso, etc. etc. etc.
Feinstein, however, does eat children.
Objection, your honor, I beg to differ on the topic of Mosins and cosmoline… 😉
I thought Wednesday was Bidenday. Still, not complaining. Great strip.
I love this comic so much I don’t read it at work, but save it for when I get home and can fully appreciate it. Miss it on weekends though.
If the strip gets popular enough to get me to quit my day job, I will absolutely move it to 7 days a week.
I’d be more impressed by the lady firing the AR if she had used that sling properly, or even taken a hasty position using it. Then shown us her target.
